"Do you..... Do you really think... you can live without me? How naive..."

A deep, gravelly voice reverberated through his senses. However, unlike, the low baritone of a certain detective that could make his ears itchy, this voice only made his hair stand at the end.

"W-Who are you?" His voice trembled, hands shaking uncontrollably. Deep down, he sensed that whatever the answer might be, it wouldn't be something he wanted to hear.

There was a prolonged silence before a burst of laughter erupted from the other end of the call, forcing his blood to run cold.

Ren ripped the earplugs out hastily, yet the laughter persisted, echoing in his ears like hope to a victim; always present yet futile.
