Chapter 31: Ruined Plans

Ren tried to drag his battered body toward the inner corridor. Even in his state, barely holding on, he didn't dare risk heading for the exit. The system glanced at the blaring signals on its interface and then at Ren Jiang's crawling form.

Didn't the Good Operating Web Domain System promise Ren that it will help the host to get a comfortable life? Looking at the barely conscious Ren, the system, whose body is still under the restrictions of showing no human emotions to a larger extent, almost cried. 

'Ren, hang in there. Just for a few more minutes, ok?' Ren wanted to joke about his condition. However, he refrained from doing so. If he opened his mouth, he might spit out more blood. He might scare the already-shaking system even more. 

Lyra's footsteps echoed behind Ren, her voice now stripped of its former false gentleness, held a clear malice, "Crawl some more. Insects like you are born to be trampled by me," she scoffed at the struggling kid on the floor.
