Chapter 61: Five Cranes

Outside the huge courtyard, everyone was present and stood behind the demon fox who stepped forward to survey the darkness within the trees. He whistled a strange tune into the suddenly still air, and it went on for a minute before he stopped.

Valda looked around the suspicious environment, and she understood why everyone used their transportation stones only at night. The forest outside the gates did not look welcoming, and she wondered what other type of carnivorous beasts lurked there.

Like an answer to her question, a shadow darted swiftly in the sky. It was so fast that when Valda looked up to see what had hovered above her, the star-studded sky was the only thing her vision could grasp.

She turned her head to Eryx, who just stood upfront like he was expecting something to show up, and her gaze reverted to Prudence and Mildred who were also waiting, like everyone else.
