"The power you stole?!" Ramun wheezed, reaching out to the necklace with his face, but Marenda dangled it out of his reach.

"Indeed," she drawled, the power behind her intensifying in heat and strength. "This is the power I stole from your uncrowned king. You will get it from me, but all you have to do is tell me all the Vale knows and doesn't know about the red haired girl, Nihilara."

As she spoke, the power bubbling behind her now fully formed snaked out like a fog of smoke from a chimney, reaching for Ramun who was unaware of the deadly magic that Marenda had just conjoured.

So immersed was he in the necklace that even when the snake-like smoke circled his head, forming the image of an actual formless snake that whispered just what Marenda wanted it to whisper in his ears, he never noticed the spell.
