Chapter 23: Dark future

"What happened between you and Kian today?" Esther asked she pulled out a chair to sit close to Daphne, working hours were over and they were all arranging the cafe. 

Daphne had been sitting by herself for a while in thought after Kian left. Esther couldn't understand what was wrong with her, ever since Daphne spoke with Kian outside, she had been more quiet than usual, and she looked troubled. 

"You two spoke for a long time outside. Is everything okay? Did he say something horrible to you?" Esther asks Daphne who continues to be silent. 

Daphne thought about how she should reply to Esther's questions. Logically, Kian didn't say anything bad to her, but she still couldn't bring herself to accept Kian words because that meant that she had no hope in her battles against Noah. 'Is Rays city going to be my permanent home?' Daphne thought, 'Am I going to live out the rest of my days hiding like a rat while slaving away with a job that can't earn me much money?'
