Chapter 1: Chapter 1- New beginning

Standing stiffly before the school gates…

She watched absentmindedly as the senior students strode into the school wearing varieties of expression — some were tired, reluctant, joyful, sullen, slothful and more, they were a little too much to read.

She is clad in a midnight blue skirt and white shirt school uniform. Her silky straight dark hair that ran down her shoulders seems to dance softly with the wind.

Seeing the figure, anyone could guess she was a tad nervous about going in. The grip on the strap of her backpack tightened; her knuckles steadily turning pale as she nibbled on her inner lip.

Many years ago, the terrorist attack that claimed the life of her mum left her family shaken, especially her father. Only, she didn't know the terrorists had killed her mother; the news was kept from her.

Chen Xiao said her mother died of a rare and terrible illness, and mum's dying wish was that she; Delilah should be happy.

Calming her palpitating heart, she practiced her breathing exercise.

She took in a deep breath, filling her nostrils was the rich and blissful fragrance of grass and jasmine in the air, coming from within the school compound.

As she exhaled, a wave of comfort and relief crashed against her turbulent anxieties, and there was a moment of peace and tranquil in her mind.

This is a new journey, another beginning, a new chapter of her life. The next three years shall determine her future. This is high school, where she will either succeed or fail; a successful ambition and disappointment are her choices.

She threw her backpack up, squaring her shoulders; resolute and confidence flashed across her eyes. She will not disappoint grandma, dad, mum, or herself!

"Delilah… Hey Delilah…" a voice shouted; sharp and piercing, from behind. Followed by the sounds of hurried footsteps knocking on the ground. A slender figure rushed toward her.

Delilah's relaxed figure standing before the school gates tensed before she slowly turned her head. It was Bei Xiao Shi, Amy Bei.

Both girls, Amy and Delilah, had been good friends since the 9th grade, and she would be lying if she said she wasn't glad Amy was here, attending the same high school with her.

Well, it was more coincidental that Amy was here. Her parents had to relocate from C city to D city to find greener pasture. And she, in fact, was in D city for some oddly personal reasons.

Amy had arrived, "Scared?" with her hands on her knees, she probed, stifling a giggle, her eyebrows wiggling in provocation.

She was panting, breathless, for she ran over the moment she saw a nervous figure lingering by the school gates.

She raised her head and her gaze met Delilah's, who was also staring innocently at her.

Delilah blinked, hesitating for a moment, and she shook her head, but when she saw the unbelieving look in Amy's raised brows. She knew her lie was futile.

"Mhm mm!" she slowly nodded with large doe eyes and pouty lips. She looked like a soaked, abandoned puppy. Uncertainty and reignited anxiety slowly filling her eyes, as her grip on the straps of her bag tightened.

Amy rose to her feet, "He, He!" she laughed out, patting her stomach.

"Oh come on, Delilah, you don't have to be so childish… It is just high school; there's absolutely nothing to be worried about, hm?"

"Besides, what's the worst that can happen? There are no classes for us today either, so let's just live freely until the REAL schooling begins, okay?" Amy consoled, giving her friend's shoulder a gently pat that almost made her lose balance.

" Aiya, so fragile" Amy panicked as she hurriedly held her.

"But what if…" Delilah mumbled, her soft voice was barely audible.

"You'll be just fine, okay?" A gentle smile tugged on the side of Amy's lips, her eyes showing utmost sincerity, somehow calmed Delilah's anxious nerves.

Delilah's gaze lingered, Amy always seem to stand tall with bright confidence, her pretty slender frame does well in attracting attention.

Her shoulder-length silky hair framed her face, with straight bangs that gently brush over her eyebrows.

Her diamond face was a delicate balance of soft yet sharp features, punctuated by a small button nose and pink lips that curved into a gentle smile.

Likewise, her feminine eyes, a deep black, sparkled with warmth and a little of subtle of kindness, making her instantly likeable.

"That's a good girl," Amy clapped Delilah's back, a lot gently this time. "Come on, let's go. I'm afraid you'll turn into salt if you stand here any longer, He-he!"

Delilah nodded in agreement, her stiffen figure gradually loosening.

"We'll go check the class list before we move to the hall, I just hope we are assigned to the same class," with that said, Amy held Delilah's wrist and pulled her into the school.

"Ah!" Delilah yelped at the sudden movement, her silky dark hair flew freely with the wind.

Two beauties, who didn't know were slowly gaining attention, stood before the class list. Delilah's gorgeous features sunk in disappointment.

Amy noticed and tried to console her. She moved closer and held her hands.

"Dia? It's going to be fine. I… I know we are not in the same class, but we will always be good friends, okay?"

Delilah had her head downcast. Looking like an abandoned child. She nodded at Amy's word, even though she wasn't feeling any better.

"Good girl! Now stop looking like you just got ditched on your wedding day; you're making people think I'm bullying you," Amy whispered before bursting into laugher.

"Hey!" A sudden gasp escaped her lips as she felt a body press on her.

"Silly, you could just say you wanted a hug" she flicked Delilah's forehead after she released the hug.

Amy was a good friend, and she loves her like a sister, happy and glad she is to have her here.
