Chapter 19: Unexpected meeting
Bradley stepped out of his apartment to go for a lunch. He doesn't have a habit of cooking, and can only make some instant easy to make food like pasta, frying an egg, toasts and coffee, etc. But it's not like as if he can eat these everyday. So, most of the times, he has lunch and dinner outside.
As he closed the the apartment door, he caught a sight of a familiar face he hadn't seen for some time now, his neighbor Sarah. It's been a while since they last met face to face, but he watched her movie "Juno" in last night. It was a little surprise for him, because she never mentioned anything about being an actress.
He also found out only because he watched her face on the poster outside the theater, so he went in to watch the movie, otherwise he went to watch "Golden Compass" last night. But he is glad that he watched "Juno". It was worth it and its been a really long time since he watched a movie as refreshing and light hearted as "Juno".
He raised his hand to greet loudly, but the person he greeted didn't respond back. Maybe she didn't notice him or maybe she was ignoring him.
Brad frowned at the unexpected no response. Its strange. She doesn't look like the type to ignore someone like this face to face. But he could be wrong, maybe she doesn't want to talk to him right now or might be busy.
Brad put the confusing thoughts away, and decided to have a meal first. Just when he turned his head, he caught a sight that frightened him. He immediately rushed and pulled the girl who was about to bump in a wall.
Sarah didn't noticed that someone had called her name. She was so lost in her thoughts that she almost hit her head on the sharp edge of the wall. It was a blessing that someone pulled her away in time. She raised her head to thank the person, but her words stopped in her mouth.
She was a little surprise, not expecting to see Brad of all the people. It's been a while since she last saw him. He must've been busy with work. She greeted: "It's nice to see you. How are you doing? Thanks for the help just now, otherwise I might have gotten an injury."
Bradley nodded: "I am okay. How about you?" He was busy filming lately, so he didn't spend much time at home. He looked at the girl closely whom he last saw months ago. She looks the same as last time, but there seems to be something off.
They have been neighbours for more than a year now, but the number of times they have interacted can be counted on fingers. But even in those few times, whenever he met Sarah, she was always lively and smiling brightly. But the Sarah in front of him, this is the first he was seeing her this depressed
Of course, she was trying to not show it, but he could still pinpoint it. It's surprising. When did his memory got so much better?
Sarah replied: "I am also completely fine." As a proof, she gave her usual playful smile.
It was beautiful, but it still couldn't convince Brad, "Do you wanna talk about it?"
He hurriedly stopped himself from speaking. He wanted to slap himself now. What the hell are you doing Brad.Who asks for someone's privacy when you don't know anything more than the name of other person.
He hurriedly said: "Sorry", and excused himself. He turned around to leave hurriedly, but his steps froze hearing the reslonse he was least expecting to hear.
"How about mine house then?"
He turned around to refuse, but found the girl looking at him nervously. He gulped and nodded.
Brad followed Sarah inside her apartment. He looked around. The infrastructure was the same as his. but It was much more beautifully decorated and clean, not like his usual messy one.
He sat on the sofa as per the instruction, and looked at host. She also looked very nervous. She picked up a wine bottle from the refrigerator and poured it in two glasses.
He thanked and took the wine glass to have a sip. As for the stupid question of asking her if she was 21 or not, he wasn't a fool to ask it.
Sarah looked at the person she invited for drink. She doesn't know why he gave the suggestion of talking to him, but what she was more surprised of was her positive reply.
Brad felt the atmosphere was a little awkward, so he tried to change the subject: "I watched "Juno" last night. Its an excellent movie. I am surprised you never mentioned about being an actress."
Sarah was a little stunned. This was the topic she least wanted to talk about, but it's also something she might need to talk on. She looked at the man sitting opposite to her with complicated expressions, and drink the full glass of wine in one sip, and poured another one for her.
