Chapter 50: I Know You

Maddison's guess was right! Edith King had been awake the entire time! In fact, she'd been trying her best to keep a serene expression, instead of one pained by the noise everyone was making.

People crying over her. People gossiped while she lay in bed trying to rest. 

At the end of the day, her son knew her best. 

"Calling me out like that in front of your girlfriend? Is this revenge for what I said to her?" Edith asked as she opened her eyes and turned to look at her son. 

When she tried to sit up in bed, Elias leaned forward to help. He made sure the pillows supported her back and head. 

Maddison bit her inner cheek. She didn't know what to say or do so she kept quiet. When she realized Edith had addressed her as Elias's girlfriend, she could not help but smile a little. 

It must be a sign that Edith recognized her and her relationship with Elias!

"Maddison," Edith called out to her, startling her.
