Chapter 5: V - A Fair Deal

As I was minding my own business, a sharp tug on my hair brought me to my feet with a start. The pain shot through my scalp, and I instinctively clutched at my aching head. Before I could even process what had happened, I heard Alex's loud voice behind me and sprang into action. With a swift movement, Alex reached out and firmly grabbed the perpetrator's hair, seeking to defend me from the unexpected attack.

I saw Lara rushing towards us and didn't know what to do. I smirked at the thought that, even in this kind of moment, she was still cute.

The pain the girl caused made me groan in pain. The sudden exchange of hair-pulling sent the scene into chaos as students looked on in shock and confusion. The random girl yelped in surprise and retaliation, creating a commotion that reverberated through the area.

As the tussle ensued, I struggled to regain my composure and understand what had prompted such an unwarranted assault.

When I was finally free from the girl's hand, I faced her and scoffed. I rested my hands on my waist and looked at the girl while Alex was still pulling her hair.

"How childish!" I exclaimed. I got closer to the girl as her eyes glazed over.

"Since you started it, mind asking what was the reason? Or does your childishness rule over your senses and cause these kinds of tantrums?"

"I don't like sharing, I don't like you, and you stick to what's mine."

My forehead furrowed at what I heard, or did I even hear it right?

"Come again?"

The whole experience left me feeling grumpier than ever, irked by the senseless act of aggression. I couldn't help but wonder what had possessed the random girl to behave in such an irrational and hurtful manner. The memory of that painful hair-pulling lingered, leaving a sour taste in my mouth and a lingering sense of unease.

Alex let her go and got closer to me, making us face each other at 1 inch distance.

She was about to slap me when a hand stopped her.

"Enough!"

I laughed in disbelief and laughed even harder, making all the people look at me confused. They might think what a crazy woman I am. Even the two looked at me with a confused look.

"So, this is the property you never wanted to share with anybody else?" I asked in disbelief, pointing at the man I bumped into earlier, who is the same man that was with me on that rainy day and booked a cab for me.

"Cheap," I whispered.

Alex and Lara clung to my arms, but they didn't intend to stop me and that made it even better.

"I heard that." The man beside her replied with a short smile. He looks as if he's enjoying it. How rude, but I'm enjoying it too.

"Canim is mine and mine alone, remember that!"

I nodded and simply said, "Okay."

She smirked as she felt she had won and left.

Do you think this is over? No darling, you messed with me. No one has ever done that to me, not even my stepmother successfully laid a finger on me. So expect this as a beginning.

"Let's go?" I asked the two and Alex just nodded, but I saw Lara watching the two until they slowly disappeared out of our sight.

"Is everything okay? Is something the matter?"

"N-no, I just-- Well, never mind."

_______

I sat on my desk and placed every new clue and information I gathered today. This will be a big help in finding what I am hunting.

I heard my stomach growl, so I decided to go outside and have a stroll and try to find some places to have my dinner.

I found none but a plaza in the midst of nowhere. How could they build a plaza with no buildings nearby? But it looks so peaceful though.

I decided to go there and sat on a swing and looked at the stars. I feel so dramatic right now, so I chuckled.

"There are only a few stars in the sky, and there's not even a single food stop nearby, and I don't even know how to deal with that freak at the school..." I stopped, looked down, and stared at my shoes.

"Can you imagine my life after you left me, Grandpa? So chaotic, isn't it?"

As I swayed back and forth on the swing, my quiet tears mingled with the evening breeze. Suddenly, Canim's voice cut through my solitude. Startled, I turned to see him standing there, holding out a sandwich in a cold, detached manner. "I'll give you this if you promise to help me and provoke Nadia," he said with disdain. "I don't want your presence around me."

Confusion and amazement flickered across my face. Canim's unexpected behavior left me speechless. "I hate to see your face," he continued, a hint of bitterness in his voice, "but look at me offering a deal with you."

I blinked back my tears and looked at him, trying to make sense of his strange offer. "Why are you acting this way?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. Canim simply glared at me, waiting for a response.

Shaking my head in disbelief, I muttered, "I don't understand," and pushed myself off the swing, heading towards my place. Canim's icy attitude and abrupt offer lingered in the air, leaving me feeling a mix of bewilderment and hurt.

I was about to open my door when I was taken aback when a hand abruptly held my wrist.

"Then let's have a fair deal. I want Nadia out of my life. As you may have witnessed earlier, she's always annoying."

I just looked at him apathetically and replied. "But you want and feel the same for me too, have you gone mad? Did your brain stop working?"

He didn't say anything but handed me what he was holding earlier and left.

I went inside and went directly into the kitchen to see what it was. I smiled at the sandwich; it was so cute.

I didn't hesitate to eat it and enjoyed it as if I had never eaten since yesterday.
