Chapter 13: 13. Surprise, Alex!
"Will I be able to meet him?" Alexandra asked with anticipation.
"Definitely! He would be flying in tomorrow. He will stay at the old Croft villa. You can meet him like you used to!" Sir Dominic Zane said with a doting look on his face. He knew how much his daughter cherished the young man. Perhaps his decision this time would make her happier. One of the main reasons of meeting the Crofts this time was also to discuss the marriage between Alexandra and Zachary.
Old man William Croft and his wife, Wilma Croft had been pestering him about it since few years back and had declared that their son would marry Alexandra and no one else. They had long regarded her as their daughter in law. Therefore when he met them this time, it was not only to discuss about their business collaboration but also to talk further about the marriage agreement. Sir Dominic Zane had also favoured Zachary Croft and wished the marriage union between the two prominent families would materialised. Therefore, they reached a consensus and planned to inform the two children soon. It was also a good thing that Zachary Croft was coming back to Azteria this time. Both Alexandra and Zachary would be able to spend more time together and picked up where they left off!
"Dad, dad, hello did you hear what I said?" Sir Dominic Zane was in a deep thought when his daughter's voice startled him.
"What is it?" He asked with a smile.
"I said, I will pick Zachary up from the airport. Do you have his flight details? I will surprise him." Alexandra said with a smile. She had not seen him in years, she wondered how would he look like now.
"Sure, I will get Secretary Young to send it to you later. Now, let's eat your breakfast before it gets cold." Sir Dominc Zane replied.
Both father and daughter enjoyed their breakfast and chatted happily.
Alexandra entered the car with a jovial mood and Benjamin was pleased to see her. But Alexandra's next words stunned Benjamin. "Zachary is coming back! I'm so happy Benji!" She exclaimed.
"Is he your friend?" Benjamin couldn't help but asked.
"Hmmm…I'm not sure. We grew up together, he took care of me when I was younger, and he was way older than me. I'm not sure friend is the appropriate term. He is more like a brother to me, I guess?" Alexandra pondered aloud on Benjamin's question.
"Well, that's good then. You'll be able to meet this brother of yours soon." Benjamin was glad but worried at the same time. It's apparent that she didn't have any romantic feelings towards him. But who knew if that wasn't the case with him? That's what worried him the most. Another potential love rival!
The next day, Alexandra reached the airport and eagerly waited for Zachary at the arrival hall. Luckily she had managed to get time off from work. Benjamin was asked to wait in the car while she went in alone. Benjamin wasn't happy with the arrangement but looking at how happy Alexandra was, he obliged and repeatedly asked her to be extra careful. She was dressed low key and was also wearing sunglasses to avoid any unwanted attention.
Not long after, Alexandra saw a dashing figure emerged from the arrival hall exit. He was tall, good looking and his business like manner exuded a strong presence. He was wearing a business suit with a dark overcoat. His handsome face looked serious and despite the many onlookers especially girls who kept glancing at him, the man didn't even spare them any glance. Instead he was busy checking his phone and occasionally looked up to make sure he was going the right way.
Although she had not seen him for a few years, she was sure he was Zachary Croft. Zachary Croft didn't realize Alexandra's presence as she was waiting from a distance. She immediately followed him and as she got near him, she suddenly called out, "Zachary!"
Zachary who was immersed in work messages, suddenly stopped when he heard his name. He turned around and saw a girl, with sunglasses standing there. "Sorry, do I know you?" He asked her.
"You left me heartbroken years ago and now it seemed you've forgotten about me. How heartless!" Alexandra suddenly decided to tease him.
"Miss, I don't know what scheme you are playing but I'm not interested! Please stop." He looked at her impatiently and turned to leave.
"Wait! Do you have someone else in your heart? If you answer me, I'll leave you alone. I swear." Alexandra pestered him further.
"What?? Why should I tell you? Who the hell are you?? Please leave before I call the security." Zachary was getting angry at this rude girl.
"No, please don't. I've been in love with you for many years. Please tell me if you have someone you love and I'll leave right away!" Alexandra wanted to burst out laughing looking at Zachary's flushed face. He was obviously very very annoyed.
This girl was so persistent! Zachary was so annoyed and he could feel his face became hot, probably due to anger. She had the nerve to hold on to his arm as if they're close!
He shook off her hands while answering her question, "Yes, I have a fiancée whom I loved very much. You should find someone else to love!" With that he started to walk away.
"Is her name Alex by any chance?" Zachary was stunned at the girl's response and quickly turned around and blurted out, "How did you know?! Who are you??!"
Alexandra was shocked! She didn't think her teasing would lead to this outcome. What did he mean?? Fiancée, love, me? Wait, the Alex that he meant, was it me or another person with the same name? What the hell is going on? These questions kept bombarding Alexandra's mind and she stood there not knowing what to do.
Zachary Croft was annoyed and puzzled at the same time. Just yesterday his parents had sat him down and told him about making Alexandra their daughter in law. He was obviously pleased with his parents' arrangements with Sir Dominic Zane and agreed immediately. To him, only Alexandra deserved to be Mrs Zachary Croft. He had grown up with Alexandra and saw her progress day by day. From a curious child to an eager student, she absorbed knowledge like a sponge and wasn't afraid of failing. She was so persistent and determined in everything she did.
When Alexandra turned 16, his parents had sent him her pictures. The little girl had grown up to be a very stunning and beautiful woman. For the first time, Zachary Croft's heart felt like someone had squeezed it and he found himself catching his breath. He knew then that he had fallen in love. The brotherly love he had for Alexandra had turned into something else. He found himself fantasizing kissing her and holding her in his arms. Zachary Croft couldn't be happier that both his parents and Sir Dominic Zane had made plans to unite him and Alexandra. The next step was to get Alexandra's approval on this. Although his parents informed him that Alexandra still wasn't informed of this but Zachary Croft was not worried. If one thing he knew, Alexandra always listened to her father.
No one apart from the family and Sir Dominic Zane knew about this, so how did this deranged woman knew?? Who was she??
She stood rooted and didn't say anything. In fact, she looked like she was in a shock. But Zachary Croft wouldn't know for sure as she was wearing sunglasses. Curiousity got the better of him and he immediately extended his hand to remove her sunglasses to see the identity of this mysterious girl. However, once he took them off, he was shocked. Stood before him was the face he had longed to see for years.
