Ethan woke up quickly, panting. Sweat soaked his clothes. He tried to remember what he had seen in his dream but couldn't recall. He was sure it was just a terrible nightmare. He had been having these kinds of nightmares frequently, and he wasn't happy about it. After all, he knew dreams were a part of human consciousness from his previous life, but he couldn't make sense of why he was having so many nightmares while living such a comfortable life. He soon set off towards the nearby river. As he passed through the tall trees, he saw a white river ahead. He stripped off his clothes and jumped into the river. Despite the cold water making it difficult to move for a while, he eventually got used to it.
In that moment, he strangely remembered a part of his dream. It was more of a dream telling him truths about his life than a nightmare. At that moment, Ethan recalled his previous life that he had kept in a corner of his mind for a long time. His previous life, which was all bad. Orphanage caretaker, Mr. Liam, was quite happy today because it was his wedding anniversary. The children at the orphanage loved Mr. Liam very much, and Ethan and his only friend, Wyat, also liked Mr. Liam a lot. Wyat was quite shy, but he had managed to get along well with Ethan. They had met because of a fight at first, and their relationship, which started with hatred, had developed into friendship.
They spent their days playing football in the garden or joking with each other. Wyat had never had any friends before because of his slight stutter, but he had had no problems since he met Ethan. They went to his room to give him a gift for the anniversary of Mr. Liam, who they loved as a friend. Mr. Liam welcomed his two friends with joy and invited them inside. "Would you like some chocolate, boys?" he smiled at them. Wyat and Ethan nodded eagerly.
A few minutes later, when Mr. Liam returned, he approached them and said, "Here you go, boys. A special chocolate for both of you. But don't eat too much, or the tooth monster will steal your teeth." Ethan and Wyat laughed as they began to eat their chocolates.
Ethan and Wyat thanked Mr. Liam for his gift with joy and started eating their chocolates. While Wyat preferred to eat his chocolate slowly, Ethan quickly devoured his. Mr. Liam smiled as he watched them.
A few minutes later the two of them finished their chocolates and left after saying goodbye to Mr. Liam. The two of them went to their room, talking all the way about how kind and caring Mr. Liam was towards children.
The next day, Ethan woke up to the sound of the alarm, took a quick bath, put on his clothes and went out. He met Wyat and the two of them went to the hall where they had class. It was another normal day and the two of them had their usual lunch after class and then went out into the garden to play. That's when they noticed Mr. Liam sitting on a bench. He was not the happy and loving man he had been yesterday. He was sad and depressed, playing with the ring on his finger.
"What's wrong with Mr. Liam. Do you know anything, Ethan?" asked Wyat. Ethan shrugged his shoulders and said, "I have no idea." Wyat walked toward Mr. Liam. Ethan obligingly followed his friend. "Are you okay, Mr. Liam?"
Liam looked at Wyat for a moment, then smiled and said, "Not so good, guys."
"Is something wrong, Mr. Liam?" Wyat asked.
Liam looked at Wyat in silence for a while and then replied "my wife and I broke up last night, so I will be unhappy for a while". Wyat couldn't help himself and said "why did your wife break up with you Mr. Liam?" Liam said, "Because of stupid reasons of adults. You will understand when you grow up.
"I don't understand why, but your wife was a fool for leaving a good man like you, Mr. Liam," Wyat said angrily, but his little stutter spoiled the whole situation. Liam found Wyat's reaction sweet and smiled at him. "I guess you're right. The woman who left me is a fool," he said. Mr. Liam took some chocolates out of his pocket and handed them to both of them. they both enjoyed their chocolates and hurried back to their room. Liam smiled as he watched wyat leave and then turned on the music on his phone and took out his headphones.
The next week, Ethan woke up thinking it was just another normal day. After taking a shower, as usual, he dressed and went outside. He couldn't find Wyat at their usual meeting spot. When Wyat didn't show up like this, he was probably sick. So Ethan headed towards the classroom.
After the class, he quickly made his way to his friend's room. When there was no answer to his knock, he entered the room. There was an unpleasant smell in the darkroom. Ethan noticed that Wyat was lying under the blanket. Approaching him, he realized that the smell was coming from Wyat. "How many days have you been living without taking a bath, buddy?"
When Wyat remained silent, Ethan approached him. "Hey, are you sleeping?"
"Leave me alone, Ethan. I'm not okay," he said. Ethan moved away, feeling hurt. His only friend had asked him to leave, and Ethan, who was only eight years old, took it personally. From that day on, Ethan didn't speak a single word to Wyat for days.
As time passed, Ethan tried to understand why he and Wyat had drifted apart. He realized that Wyat was introverted and going through emotionally difficult times. But he didn't have the courage to talk to him again.
A few days later, when Ethan woke up in the middle of the night, he noticed that the orphanage building was being painted in blue and red from the outside. Looking out of the window, he saw police cars and ambulances outside with their sirens blaring. As he went outside, he heard the voices of the children mingled together. As he approached the sound to see what was happening, he stopped in front of a familiar room. Struggling to get through the crowd of children, when he tried to get closer to see what was happening, he noticed Wyat's dangling feet in the air. When he tried to see what was happening inside the room, a police officer yelled at him and pushed him back. "Come here, kid." The staff there guided Ethan away from the room.
Ethan tried to make sense of the image he saw with fear. So, after about half an hour, they took out a black bag from Wyat's room on a stretcher. Ethan secretly followed the officers to find out what was happening.
When he went downstairs, he saw someone put the black bag into the ambulance. He then approached a police officer there to ask what happened. At that moment, he realized that a police officer had beaten Mr. Liam. He quickly approached the police and asked, "What are you doing? Why are you hitting Mr. Liam?"
The police officer turned to Ethan and said, "This is what we do to bad guys, son, and this man has committed the biggest sin that a human can commit. If you don't want to be like this dishonorable person, stay on the path of God, son." They force Liam into the police car and drive away. In the midst of all this, Ethan returned to his room, trying to make sense of what he had experienced.
The next day, he received the news of Wyat's death from his teachers, and Ethan realized that the foot he saw belonged to Wyat. Trying to learn more about this incident over the years, Ethan could not leave his room for days when he finally learned the whole truth. And he had many therapy sessions to fix his psychology.
he learned that Liam had abused and molested Wyat. Liam, who was not psychologically well after breaking up with his wife, abused an 8-year-old child and as a result, Wyat committed suicide. On the other hand, the law sentenced Liam to death. The thing that makes Ethan sad the most in all these events is that he experiences all this and does not know what Wyat, whom he sees as his best friend, is going through. This incident later caused Ethan to become even more introverted, and all those beautiful memories of his childhood disappeared.
