Chapter 9: Liberation

Sirius decided not to delay the execution of his plans and went to 12 Grimmauld Place the following evening. The result of his conversation with Lady Walpurga was a formal invitation to the boys to the Black mansion. Lady Black's TA and ETA differed little. In fact, the only difference was the lack of screams emitted by the portrait. But at any rate, the lady had given reasonably good advice and had even given away a stash of useful artefacts in the house.

Harry strongly suspected that this stash had only been given to them because they were going to follow her niece Bellatrix to Azkaban. It was there that the boys had found several good quality invisibility mantles, which they had taken with them, as well as a small iron box that was capable of containing the flames of Hell and not letting them out. With this item, the Slytherin medallion given by Kreacher was destroyed. The wizards simply shoved the locket in there, conjured hellfire and closed the lid and began to listen with sadistic pleasure to the screams of Tom Riddle's soul piece being destroyed. And so today the four young boys stood on the opposite shore from Azkaban. Sirius and Barty were not with them. Harry, seeing how nervous his godfather was about their foray into Azkaban, decided they needed to be kept busy. So Black and Crouch Junior were now at Little Hangleton. They were to retrieve the ring that had served Riddle as a receptacle for another piece of his soul from the Gaunt shack. Upon their return to Grimmauld Place, the Horcrux was to be destroyed in the same drawer as the Slytherins' locket.

The boys looked at each other and nodded decisively. A second later, a raven, a kite, a snake and a ferret were on the shore together the four young men. The birds, carefully clutching the cobra and the small white raptor in their paws, soared into the sky. After a quarter of an hour's flight, they landed on the upper platform of the prison's hulk. Taking on human form, the boys threw on their invisibility robes. Azkaban's defences let them through all their shields unhindered and the boys, having removed the locking spell from the hatch cover, descended to the top floor of the prison. The magic of Azkaban flowed not only in Harry, but also in the other three of his friends. Only there was very little of it in them, but even that was enough to keep Azkaban from thinking of them as outsiders. Draco thanked all the saints that before the prison break, Barty had offered them a ritual to exchange blood and magic. After that, the participants would become named brothers to each other and receive a small portion of their named brothers' knowledge and abilities. For Draco, Neville and Ron, Harry benefited the most, as his knowledge, thanks to Riddle's Horcrux, was very large. They could also now understand Parseltang, and Weasley and Longbottom had a weak block that could be strengthened with training. From Ron, the friends gained the ability to intuitively navigate rituals. From Neville the knowledge of plants, and from Draco the ability to brew potions at a high level.

Trying not to make much noise, the boys moved around the floor, peering into all the chambers. The matter was complicated by the fact that they didn't know where Bellatrix was kept. She was not on this floor, so they went down the stairs. But even there the person they were looking for was not there. When they reached the third floor, the young mages saw that half a dozen dementors were crowded near one of the cells, apparently Azkaban had recently got a new tenant. Their hatred for these creatures was great, and although they no longer felt any discomfort at their presence, there was only one thought in their minds: "Destroy them."

Four wands, identical on the outside but different on the inside, rose up synchronously, and a low whisper of a patronus spell escaped their lips. The further development of events shocked the mages. From the tips of their wands came their intercessors. But not silvery white, but impenetrably black. Deer, terrier, wolf, and horse charged at the Dementors. They in turn began to retreat, but the patronuses took them in a ring, and a moment later the guards of Azkaban were crumbling into ash. After circling around where the Dementors had been, the beasts returned to their creators and disappeared.

- I don't get it," Draco stretched out, looking at the ashes.

- I have no idea," Harry replied, wrapping up the invisibility robe that had fallen off during the patronus summoning. - We'll talk about it at home.

The boys, silently, moved on. Madame Lestrange was still nowhere to be found on this floor. Harry cursed the Azkaban officials for moving all the Lestrange's to other cells rather than leaving them where they had been at the beginning, when Barty was still in prison. Finally, they reached the lower levels. These levels were even worse than the others, for they were where the bulk of the Dementors were, and the prisoners were almost constantly under their influence. As soon as they got down there, the boys were confronted by three guards with a dim patronus rabbit hopping around them. Both of them froze. The guards' patronus went out and they raised their wands. The tips glowed with curses ready to be snapped and the boys immediately raised their wands. Two stuns and a paralysing one were met by four green beams of unforgivable curses that hit their target with precision. Three dead guards collapsed to the floor. No sooner had they lowered their wands than a group of Dementors appeared from around the corner. The boys had to summon their unusual intercessors again. Without cancelling the spell of the patronus, the mages began to pelt the dementors with conjured clots of fire. While the first group of Azkaban guards turned into piles of ashes, another group appeared and the guys' intercessors threw themselves at them....

Ten minutes later, the worst prison in the magical world had lost a third of its guards. The guys, already tired enough, found a free cell and put the dead guards in it. After that, after drinking a vial of revitalising potion each, the boys continued their search for Bellatrix. Harry peered through the window of another door and froze dumbfounded. In the corner, a rather young mage was sitting on a bare board, meant to be a bed, in a terrible state. But that wasn't what shocked Potter. The prisoner looked a lot like Sirius Black, only a little younger and crazier.

- Great darkness," Harry whispered, stepping away from the door and knocking it off its hinges with a spell. Entering the cell, Potter approached the prisoner.

- Tell me your name," he said demandingly.

He stared at the young man with a half-crazed look of muddy blue eyes from under long, tangled strands of dirty hair.

- Name it. Your. Name," Harry demanded, emphasising each word clearly.

Apparently the prisoner got what he was being asked to say, and he mumbled something inaudible. The boy bent closer to him.

- One more time," he asked.

- Regulus... Arcturus... Black," the prisoner said hoarsely.

- Why are you here? - Potter questioned.

- Dumbledore... and Frown... - Regulus coughed heavily, interrupting his answer.

- 'Me and my friends are going to get you out of here. Will you be able to stand up? - Harry asked another question.

Black nodded frantically and rested his hands heavily on the boards and tried to get up. After a couple of seconds he was able to stand up and staggered and took a step. But because he was so weak, Regulus couldn't keep his balance and started to fall, but Harry managed to grab him under his arm. At the same second, Ron peeked into the chamber.

- Harry? - He called out in surprise.

- Help me," Potter demanded. The redhead came over to the prisoner and pulled him forward, throwing his arm over his shoulder.

- Harry, who's that? - Weasley asked.

- Sirius' brother," Potter replied.

His friend's answer shocked the redhead so much that he slammed into the wall next to the door as he stared dumbfounded at the person he was helping to walk.

- Ouch! - Ron howled, rubbing his nose with his hand.

- Quiet," Harry shushed him, pulling the invisibility cloak over Regulus.

The redhead, cursing half-heartedly, threw the hood of the robe over his head, disappearing from sight. When the three of them were in the corridor, Potter put the door back in place and cast a disillusionment spell on himself. From somewhere in front came Draco's voice.

- We've found her.

A hand appeared out of nowhere in the air and Harry, leaving Regulus in the care of Carrot-top, hurried forward. He entered the exact same cell he had just come out of. Her prisoner was sitting on the same kind of bed, staring blankly at a single point on the opposite wall. Harry swallowed convulsively and, deciding not to waste time, said.

- Let's take her and leave.

Draco and Neville swept the woman under their arms, lifting her to her feet. Malfoy threw off his invisibility robe and put it on Madame Lestrange, and cast a disillusionment spell on himself. The boys led Bellatrix out into the corridor and Harry closed the door behind them. Half an hour later, they finally reached the top floor and made their way out onto the landing. All this time both Regulus and Bellatrix had been acting calm, only holding tightly to the hands of those helping them walk. But now they were both looking around nervously, trying to figure out why they had been brought here.

- Bellatrix, Regulus," Harry called out to them and after waiting for them to focus on him, he continued, "I'm going to create a portkey and use it to transport us to Black's town house.

Neither Lestrange nor her cousin answered him, and Potter shrugged and pulled a long piece of rope out of his pocket, which, after manipulating it with his wand, became a portal.

- We've got visitors," Neville informed them all with a certain amount of amusement, peering down over the fence of the landing.

- And the pixies with them," Ron snorted.

- What do you mean? Should I leave them a present? - Neville grudgingly said, and sniffed his nose for good measure.

- Yeah, tell them to leave a banner that says, "Here we were, below signed. ' And leave a signature of our full names at the bottom," Harry snickered, tying a rope around Madame Lestrange's wrists.

- No, that's too much," Draco chuckled, tempted to laugh at the powers that be.

- 'Bollocks,' Potter muttered, moving over to Regulus and tying the rope around his wrists the same way.

- Come on, mate, it's going to be fun," Ron supported Malfoy and Longbottom.

- Are you guys out of your minds? We're running out of time. They could walk in here any minute," Harry said indignantly.

- We'll be quick," Neville looked at him pleadingly.

- It's a madhouse on the road," the green-eyed boy said, but he gave up and waved his hand. - Do whatever you want.

Neville smiled happily and picked up a few small pebbles and held them out to Potter.

- You have more Azkaban magic in you, it will wipe out your magical handwriting. Transfigurate this into-

A few minutes later, when everything was ready, the six wizards disappeared in a pale blue flash of a portal. They appeared in the living room of the Black house and immediately found themselves in the crosshairs of two wands, Sirius and Crouch. The older wizards lowered their wands when they saw the arrivals. It was only then that Sirius saw that instead of the five of them, there were six magicians standing in the living room.

- Who are these? - He asked in surprise, pointing at the tall, thin man standing next to his godson.

- Your supposedly deceased brother Regulus," Potter replied calmly, untying the no longer needed rope from the prisoner's hands.

- Reg? - Sirius asked incredulously, his voice suddenly hoarse.

- 'He is,' Draco nodded, also freeing his aunt from the rope.

- 'But how? He's a... - Black began.

- 'Let's get them cleaned up first and then we'll find out,' Harry interrupted his godfather. - Call your housekeeper.

Sirius, still reeling from the sight of the brother he'd thought dead for years, summoned Kreacher. Seeing that the landlord was a little inadequate, Potter, sighing heavily, took matters into his own hands. However, the matter progressed with difficulty, because, seeing his favourite master alive, Kreacher became hysterical, hugging Regulus by the knees. But after three quarters of an hour, the former prisoners were bathed, fed with chicken broth, and put to bed. And the boys were interrogated as to how their outing had gone. Towards evening an emergency edition of the Daily Prophet came out. On the front page in large Gothic letters snaked the headline, "Madmen Invasion of Azkaban." Below it was a picture of the very site. In the centre stood a pole on which fluttered a white cloth with the red inscription, "Let's take Fudge's bowler hat and Dumbledore's lemon slices!"
