But seeing how Grace kept such important information from him made his blood boil. 

As far as he was concerned, Rufus was a threat to Grace's safety, including Charles's. 

One can never underestimate how far a man who felt his ex had moved on successfully  and didn't need him for anything, could go to get his revenge and Rufus struck him as one of such vengeful persons.

If he had known about this earlier, he would have put the necessary security measures in place and none of this would have happened. 

He had only sent people to watch over Grace outside the school since he believed the school was safe enough, but he didn't know of the internal battles she's been facing inside the four walls of the school. 

He gave his brother a signal and without words, Caden understood what Jace wanted him to do and stood to his feet.
