2.9% A Husband For The NANNY / Chapter 9: Hottest Widower In San Francisco.

Chapter 9: Hottest Widower In San Francisco.

"Why don't you give my boss's offer some thoughts?"

"There is nothing to think about, Wendy," Grace refused instantly. "How do you expect me to become a Nanny with all my talents and skills?"

"I do understand," Wendy commented. "But girlfriend, have you considered the pay? You never can tell, taking care of my boss's son might be more rewarding than working in an office, you know."

"It still doesn't change the fact that I will be working as a nanny. I didn't spend years studying design at the best schools just to end up changing diapers and wiping noses. It just doesn't add up."

"Come to think of it, why don't we switch places. I'll take up your job and you take up the nanny job."

"Quit joking around. If that was possible, I'm sure my boss would have asked me to be the boy's nanny already."

Wendy's expression turned serious as she said, "But what baffles me is why he considered you for that position when you applied for something else."

"I'm equally confused myself," Grace stood up to clear the table and took the dishes to the kitchen.

"You hardly strike me as someone who would be patient enough to take care of a child," Wendy joked as she joined her in the kitchen.

The corners of Grace's mouth spasmed in a smile. Children are quite troublesome and since she had made up her mind not to get married, she had planned to adopt someone much later in life to continue her lineage when she gets old.

"I thought so too, until I met that cute little angel."

"What angel?" Wendy couldn't help but ask.

"I met him at Brandon Corporation when I came for the interview."

"Wait, you met who and where?"

"A young boy that I happened to help in the restroom just before I went in for the interview."

Grace had a dreamy expression as she narrated her chance encounter with the trio.

The more she spoke, the more the pieces started fitting into the puzzle.

She had been so obsessed with her anger of being hired as a nanny that she completely forgot about the incident, coupled with the job hunt, her mind never went back to her encounter with the little boy.

"I remember the man that was introduced as his guardian, kept referring to the boy as "young master."

A quizzical frown formed itself on Grace's face. "Could he be your boss's son?"

Wendy could not hide the shock on her face as she stared at Grace. "You mean you met my boss's son on the day of the interview?"

"Yes, if it's the same person we are talking about."

"How old is the boy you met? Can you describe him?"

"About five years old or so. He had jet black hair that curled nicely around his head, also his eyes were a lovely ocean blue colour that pierced deep into my soul when he stared at me," Grace described vividly.

"I'm sorry to say that you have earned yourself a full time job as a nanny," Wendy announced solemnly.

"What do you mean by that?"

"That boy does not allow anyone to get close to him and from the rumors I had, he is quite troublesome and never satisfied with anyone around him. Except his father and uncle of course."

"So?"

"So stop searching for any job in the whole of this city. Your only saving grace would have been if the child didn't like you, but from what you have just said, he allowed you to carry him and he even refused to leave your arms until his uncle came along."

"Mm-hmm?" Grace more or less asked than replied, an inexplicable nostalgic feeling enveloping her.

"You can only be his nanny." Wendy stated flatly like a judge passing her final judgment in court.

"I still don't understand."

It wasn't that she did not understand, since the whole situation was as clear as day, but she could not believe that she had brought this trouble on herself.

"I think you'll need to sit down for a while," Wendy said as she dried the last dish and guided Grace back to the sitting room.

Grace snatched her arms from Wendy's hand. "Stop being so melodramatic."

"I'm not trying to scare you, but the thing is that, whatever that boy requests for, he always gets. And if he has set his eyes on you, which I am more than a hundred percent sure is the reason his father asked you to be his nanny, then, you can't escape it."

"But you have to understand that it's not possible for me to be his Nanny."

Her biggest dream had always been to be the CEO and owner of a huge designing firm, commanding the respect of all, and there was no place for a nanny in that picture of her future.

Wendy shook her head and gave a wry smile. "Girlfriend, what you want doesn't count here. We are talking about Jace Brandon here, the number one billionaire in San Francisco.

"Why do you think you couldn't get a nice job after so many weeks despite your fantastic resume?"

"And why do you think your kind and understanding landlord suddenly turned heartless?"

Grace's mouth hung agape as she listened to her friend. "Don't tell me it has anything to do with your boss."

"I think you get the picture now," Wendy said. "In the whole of San Francisco, Jace Brandon holds the four aces, dear friend and his tentacles spread far beyond this city. I can only advise you to gradually get accustomed to the idea of being a nanny for the rest of your life."

"Because as long as you are in this city, you will never get a job, if you understand what I mean."

Grace's head dropped onto Wendy's waiting lap in despair. "Will I be right if I say that I am finished?"

"It's not as bad as you might think," Wendy comforted as she ran her dainty fingers through Grace's voluminous plum hair.

"Look at it from the bright side. You saved me in the past and earned yourself an epic friend in me. Years later, you saved a rich kid, what do you think your reward will be this time?"

"A full time nanny obviously," came Grace's sarcastic reply.

"Or even much more. My boss is the hottest widower in San Francisco," Wendy winked meaningfully.

"Seriously?! Is this the best time for a joke?" Grace scolded, raising her head to glare at Wendy.
