Chapter 2: The Emperor that wasn't
Chapter Two
Chaos ravages the city as Swanian soldiers in their Mecha Armor and giants wreak havoc, destroying anything in their path.
The birth of the new child went unannounced to the city; those few who knew were either killed or lost in the destruction. Before chaos consumed them,Queen Zaman Kratia's personal maid, Reyan Malta, spirited him away with the help of the Head Knight's son, the then deceased Queen's bodyguard.
Fleeing through hidden passages known to Reyan, they escaped the palace's imminent destruction. Now, disguised on the city streets, Reyan voiced their concern, "How do we cross the continent?"
As they dashed away, a towering giant loomed just twenty feet ahead. Femi swiftly maneuvered Reyan and the infant into a shadowed alcove, evading the giant's notice, though its senses detected their presence faintly. Spotting an underground tunnel nearby, Femi pointed,
"That leads straight to the docks. We're going by water."
Racing through the tunnels, darkness shrouding their path, they encountered a sudden arrow, narrowly dodged by Femi, prompting Tesh's distressed cry,
"This is suffocating for the child."
Emerging into a chamber, they faced the unexpected sight of Leprechauns. "We need to hurry," Femi urged, Tesh's cries attracting the attention of a giant above ground, now tracking their location as the Leprechauns advanced towards them.
As the leprechauns prepared to strike, their shot was interrupted by the crashing debris from a giant's fist, creating an opening into the tunnels.
Seizing the chance to flee, Reyan and Femi dashed ahead, the giants relentlessly pounding the path in pursuit until they were forced to cut through a corner, narrowly escaping destruction.
Finally reaching the docks, they boarded the last escaping ship, joining others who had never called the continent home.
The Orielian continent belonged to the Kaman race, known for their beast-like nature, who had long held sway over both the Aurielian, Suesian and Swanian races.
The Suesian race are also divide into two faction, the northern suesians and south suesians, when they came into the Lyra there had an internal family dispute that allowed a faction to stand with the Orielian empire and the other stand on with the Aurelian race of the north continent, no one dares reach the north for they are stories of people never returning or never being the same again.
Originally not from the planet Lyra, legends spoke of Earth as their true home. After a great deluge, they roamed the galaxy in search of a new homeland. Welcomed by some factions of the Aurielian race, others, particularly those of the South Sea, foresaw destruction and sealed off their continent with a powerful spell, earning it the moniker "The Continent that Never Saw the Sun."
The giants and Swanian forces had seized control of the city, blocking any means of escape by ship or plane.
In the Hall of Halls, Emperor's younger brother, Dulian Kratia, gathered the twelve major families, addressing them solemnly, "My fellow kindreds, I've taken these measures to safeguard our empire, though I see some among you already disapprove."
Soldiers entered the hall, herding in the heirs and representatives of the families, forcing them to kneel before Dulian.
Advancing with a sinister smile, Dulian brandished a gun, removing all but one bullet. Selecting a girl from among the heirs, he announced,
"We're going to play a game our ancestors once played on Earth, Russian Roulette."
Pressing the gun into her trembling fist, he directed it towards the first family in line.
"House of El, this is your next heir. She must either shoot you all or herself."
Then he backs away from her, the current head of the house puts his head to the gun.
"Do it, Cara. Remember, daddy loves you."
She becomes frightened and anxious to do it, then Dulian came behind her and groped her by the ass, this action made her to shoot but the bullet didn't come out.
"You see that wasn't so hard." He said.
In a fit of anger, Cara fired the gun at Dulian, causing everyone in the hall to be frightened. Surprisingly, Dulian begins to laugh, and to everyone's amazement, the bullet hangs in the air. He picks up the bullet and drops it down.
"I love this girl," he professes.
The guards escorted the heirs out of the room, leaving Cara behind. Dulian seized Cara, sat her down, and whispered,
"Your punishment is to witness how they're all skinned alive."
Dulian began laughing hysterically as his soldiers brought out their daggers, starting by slitting their throats first. Cara watched in horror, tears streaming down her face.
Femi and Reyan arrived in the Kingdom of Elen, where Orielian Mecha Armors and Swanian Armors littered the streets.
They managed to sneak through the streets,"My little sister Omelia's place is just around the corner," she said.
Upon reaching Omelia's place, they entered and laid down little Tesh.
Alex(Tesh) woke up and found himself in a new location. He realized he had cried because something had bitten him inside the tunnels.
Femi noticed a large red spot on the back of the child's elbow. "Reyan, what's this?" Femi asked.
Reyan observed it and immediately touched him on the forehead. "He's heating up," she said.
Her sister stepped inside and asked, "What happened?" Omelia inquired.
"He was bitten by a Foxxie fly. We need to take him to a healer," she lamented.
"We can't do that. The streets will be crawling with Dulian faction of the Orielian soldiers and their Mecha Armors," Reyan's sister said.
"I thought you were a Knight?" Reyan asked furiously.
"Yes, I was sent on leave because..." Omelia paused.
"Why?" Reyan pressed.
"Because I'm pregnant," Omelia said.
The two sisters were caught up in their conversation, but Femi approached Tesh and noticed his arm beginning to heal on its own.
"Ladies, I think you need to see this," Femi said, trying to get their attention.
But they weren't listening to him, so he raised his voice to draw their focus to what he had noticed.
"Wait, hardly anyone survives such a bite, not even a magician," Omelia remarked.
Reyan, confused, couldn't quite grasp what was happening.
Meanwhile, at the palace in the Orielian Empire, preparations were being made to crown Dulian as the next emperor.
The new heirs of the twelve elite houses stood in line, with Cara of House El adorned in priestess apparel, her family known as the Emperor makers.
She proceeded down the grand hall, lined with prominent personalities and noble houses. She performed the customary rites before placing the crown on Dulian's head.
When an Emperor is adorned with the crown, he is supposed to be bestowed with the keys and powers of the ancient dragon.
After the crown was placed on him, he didn't experience any effects, which everyone was supposed to witness, as his brother, father, and ancestors before him had. He couldn't make sense of what was happening. Dulian removed the crown and put it on his head again, but still, nothing happened.
He grew increasingly angry, screaming so fiercely that even the passing birds fell from the skies.
