The next morning, Clark was awakened by a bald black man who introduced himself as Daniel.
Before crossing over, Clark had watched an anime called "One Punch Man," which popularized the phrase, "To bald is to become stronger," also known as the "Bald Strong." Now, he seriously suspected that the reason the power system in Marvel seemed limitless was because there were too many bald characters in this world.
Daniel first took Clark to the cafeteria for an authentic European breakfast, consisting of bread, milk, fried eggs, and hot dogs, among other things. During the meal, Daniel also gave Clark a brief introduction to the history and culture of the New York Sanctum, proving to be quite a talkative fellow.
Unfortunately, it was destined that Daniel would meet a tragic fate, as the New York Sanctum was prepared for Doctor Strange, and he was only its temporary caretaker.
Clark chose to let nature take its course, as he and Daniel were not yet close enough for him to go out of his way to change Daniel's predetermined path.
After breakfast, Daniel led Clark to the door of a quiet room: "The Sorcerer Supreme is waiting for you inside." After saying this, he nodded to Clark and left.
The door to the quiet room was ajar.
Just as Clark was about to knock, the familiar voice of the Sorcerer Supreme came from inside: "It's Clark, come in."
This time, the Sorcerer Supreme spoke in Chinese, with perfect Mandarin pronunciation.
Clark took a deep breath and pushed the door open.
The room's furnishings were very simple, with only two mats placed opposite each other, and nothing else. The Sorcerer Supreme sat cross-legged on one of the mats, her aura calm and natural, making her look like an ordinary nun sitting there, chanting and worshiping Buddha.
"Come and sit."
Clark took a deep breath, mimicked the Sorcerer Supreme's posture, and sat cross-legged opposite her, meeting the gaze of the strongest sorcerer on Earth calmly, without saying a word.
Even though it was their second meeting, Clark still found her unfathomable, fearing that speaking first might reveal something he shouldn't.
After a moment of eye contact, the Sorcerer Supreme was the first to speak: "Your mind is full of questions."
Clark indeed had many questions, pondering how to speak without weakening his stance. Seizing the opportunity, he said, "Indeed, my mind is filled with doubts, and I hope the master can enlighten me."
The Sorcerer Supreme's smile remained: "It seems that although you grew up in the United States, the influence of Western culture hasn't penetrated deep into your bones, otherwise you wouldn't be so reserved. It's better to ask all your questions at once. A mind filled with distractions is not conducive to learning magic."
Clark hesitated no longer and immediately asked, "First and foremost, why did the master bring me here?"
The Sorcerer Supreme replied, "I was saving you."
"Thank you, Sorcerer Supreme."
Although he thanked her verbally, he was somewhat skeptical inside. Having dared to intervene in the battle between Hulk and Abomination, he naturally had his own means of escape. However, speaking the truth might seem ungrateful.
The Sorcerer Supreme might appear to be of a certain age, but she was actually centuries old. An old soul like hers could easily see through Clark's barely hidden thoughts.
With a calm smile, the Sorcerer Supreme continued, "I cannot see your future, but it is filled with crises."
"Based on your past, you are a companion of justice. Therefore, I am willing to teach you two spells to enhance your ability to survive. As for which spells, you may choose yourself."
The Sorcerer Supreme's words were cryptic. What did she mean by not being able to see his external forces but knowing his future was full of crises?
Was she able to see it or not? However, Clark was more focused on her latter statement than on this Zen-like question: "Then, what is the price for learning these spells?"
The Sorcerer Supreme shook her head lightly, "I never expect anything in return for teaching magic."
"If you feel the need to give something in return to learn with peace of mind, then it would be to live well and strive to become stronger. The future world needs you, just like it needs the Avengers."
Initially, Clark thought his questions would be answered after meeting the Sorcerer Supreme.
Instead, his questions only multiplied.
He wasn't even sure how to begin asking them.
It was like going to a fortune-teller; if they tell you about your love life, you can immediately understand. But if, after reading your birth chart, they tell you "Form is emptiness, and emptiness is form," it becomes frustrating.
And that was exactly the situation Clark found himself in.
The Sorcerer Supreme's comments on seeing and not seeing left him utterly confused.
With no other choice, Clark decided to accept her generosity.
When it came to choosing the spells, the Sorcerer Supreme did not provide a catalog, just asked him to speak directly, which made Clark feel even more that she knew many things. Without further ado, he named the two spells he was most interested in.
Portals and Astral Projection.
Portals need no introduction; this spell is considered the first lesson in the magic of the Sorcerer Supreme's lineage, as well as the simplest and most practical.
Whether for traveling, strategic retreat (aka fleeing), or as a tactical move in combat, its effectiveness is unparalleled, as fully demonstrated in the movies. The variety of attacks that appear out of nowhere proves that there's nothing they can't do.
Astral Projection, on the other hand, is a relatively advanced spell that might seem useless at first glance but is actually a bug-level ability. Doctor Strange's rapid progression from a muggle to a supreme sorcerer capable of standing toe-to-toe with Thanos in just over a year is largely attributed to its effect.
To put it more plainly, in the magic of the Sorcerer Supreme's lineage, "Time is relative."
And the time in the astral state has a huge discrepancy with the real world.
Before crossing over, Clark had seen a video on a certain AC site analyzing the specific time in the astral world, concluding that the time ratio between the real world and the astral realm is more than 1:1250!
That means one day in the real world is equivalent to more than three years in the astral world!
In the quantum realm, a leap equals nine years. What Clark lacks most now is time!
Although there will definitely be some limitations in the astral state, even so, it's a bug-level power.
Compared to spells directly used for attack, these abilities that can help him grow quickly are more to Clark's liking.
The Sorcerer Supreme showed no surprise at Clark's choices.
With a slight smile, she readily agreed. Then, with a gesture, a visible magic circle formed in front of her: "Magic is a language, the foundation of this world..."
