Chapter 240: Chapter 237 – Battle Between Special Grade Wizards (4)

BOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM!!!

His hair forced to flutter wildly against the furious winds, Asterion looked to the side and saw the Obelisk fall to the ground with a loud thud as gigantic spikes of earth the size of mountains pierced the huge body of his Cursed Spirit.

Purple blood stained all the ground around it, all life began to wither in the face of the Cursed Spirit's highly corrosive blood.

Obelisk moved his body and threw a punch and typhoons emerged from his hand. The spiraling winds, capable of wiping out entire cities, rushed towards Philip, who ran from where he was and quickly attacked the giant Obelisk's blind spot.

The rapier in his hand was light, but just as threatening, causing great wounds to the blue giant's body.

The blue giant regenerated in the next second and showered its surroundings with a shower of extremely bright and loud blue lightning!

"Two minutes." Asterion muttered to himself, feeling that Jörmungund's Blessing was gradually weakening and the weight of supporting dozens of Cursed Spirits and his second Innate Technique was beginning to take its toll.

Looking at Victor, Asterion looked calmly at the man: "I like people like you, Victor, why don't you come to England? We have countless heirlooms dating back thousands of years in the Clock Tower. You'll be very welcome, and you'll be able to take a seat in parliament."

"You have ten seconds to accept or refuse." Asterion added, he didn't want to waste time with this fight and kill Herpo and Philip straight away. If he could stop this fight and get a powerful and experienced Special Grade Wizard, he would gladly accept.

Yes, Asterion wanted to recruit Victor, originally he didn't want Alastor Moody as his Vice General, because the man, although experienced, wasn't a commander capable of inspiring soldiers. Victor, on the other hand, besides being extremely experienced, was strong and had an honor that the English liked to wear.

Of course, if Victor didn't accept, Asterion could very well kill the man right here and now. It was only his momentary idea, if he didn't accept, he would die anyway.

Victor looked at Asterion in surprise, and seeing the serious look on his face, he pondered. He didn't want to die like Clarisse and discovered that even if he could hit Asterion with a punch of his own, he couldn't defeat him with just one punch. If Asterion wanted to retreat or even summon his Cursed Spirits to consume him to death, he could do it.

The most terrible thing was that Asterion could stay in the back line while recovering his magical energy to summon even more Cursed Spirits. That kind of mobility in a war was quite unnerving for the enemy, which unfortunately in this case, was himself.

Taking a deep breath, he felt his lungs burn with the massive amount of energy inside him, causing damage to his body. Victor looked at Asterion and with his almost 150 years of experience. "I accept."

Asterion's smile grew and he immediately set off towards Herpo, after reviewing the importance of the enemies on the battlefield, Herpo was the most important target to kill!

Herpo, who was fighting Fou, looked at the grotesque abomination of flesh and blood, and couldn't help but think that Asterion was mad. After the fight began, the adorable creature transformed into a horrible monster made of flesh and blood with millions of eyes.

Even if he tried to transfigure this creature with his Innate Technique - Supreme Soul Permanence - into something different and a slave to him, the monster could separate this transfigured piece of flesh and continue to attack him without pause. He knew that this was a monster that Asterion had created to contain him in every possible way.

Waving his hand, Herpo summoned his transfigured slaves. They looked like naked giants, but without genitals, running around wildly with open mouths full of teeth.

As soon as he summoned the Slaves, Herpo didn't hesitate to run! The level of danger escalated very quickly and he himself hadn't expected Asterion to be so crazy as to create a Cursed Spirit capable of leaving Patriarch Black invincible for five minutes!

However, just as he was ready to Apparate away, a punch to the stomach sent his body flying backwards as a large amount of blood gushed from his mouth.

Falling to the ground, his body spun and rolled over a few times before coming to a stop, staring at Asterion with a touch of disbelief.

Turning his gaze back to the Battlefield, he saw Victor attacking Philip along with the titan-like Special Grade Spirit.

"I'm not afraid of a powerful enemy, I'm afraid of stupid teammates. That phrase has never been truer than now. I finally know how Zeus felt about being betrayed by Poseidon for profit in the face of the First World War." Getting up from the floor, Herpo commented with a smile on his face, even though his chin and shirt were stained with blood.

"What can I say, I'm quite persuasive." Asterion replied, moving towards Herpo step by step, his smile growing by the moment. At such close range, even if Herpo wanted to Apparate, it would take a second. Enough time to prevent such a thing from happening.

"I'm going to love every second from now on." Asterion continued speaking, his voice tinged with a sadistic tone and venom. He had wanted to kill this manipulative mouse for a long time, although he wasn't really going to kill it completely, since what stood before him was a mere Horcrux.

Herpo, despite his current condition, was not afraid. Mahoraga was trapped in an Alchemical Item made by the Goddess Hecate, the monster Asterion had created to contain him couldn't kill him, and Asterion himself had no way of destroying his Horcrux.

At most, Herpo felt that he would be beaten up and imprisoned, after all, he was an extremely valuable source of information; whether it was the war or the colossal amount of knowledge he had acquired over two thousand years.

Perhaps noticing this, Asterion's smile grew even wider, the sadistic look on his face could no longer be hidden. He will delight in breaking every nerve, determination and arrogance of this legendary two thousand year old wizard.

Asterion could even read Herpo's current thoughts at that moment, it wasn't hard to guess that the man thought he had no way of killing him. Without knowing how wrong he was.

"Expansion-" Herpo, seeing Asterion's smile, was indifferent and instantly summoned the black barriers around him, he had confidence in his Domain Expansion, but before he could finish, a fleeting light appeared in the air and before he knew it, both his arms separated from his body in a simultaneous gush of blood.

Looking at his missing arms, Herpo's face remained indifferent.

"Better not move, Herpo the Dirty." Asterion commented with a cold tone as he swung his sword, wiping away the blood on the blade.

"My epithet is something I've never liked. They called me dirty just because I did some forbidden experiments involving living humans." Herpo snorted listening to his epithet as blood dripped in large quantities from both sides.

"You of all people, you must understand, Asterion Black. Wizards must sail the sea of knowledge without barriers or laws created out of fear of the ignorant who cannot see the beauty of infinite knowledge."

Asterion really agreed with these words, if the wizarding world had done as Herpo had said, the world today would be like the Warlock of the Magus World, a world still medieval, but with a civilization totally centred on magic and knowledge.

Would it be an interesting world to live in? Absolutely yes, it would be incredible to invade other planes and plunder resources while everyone had the opportunity to be truly immortal, even if the chances were slim.

Unfortunately, this wasn't Warlock's universe and the Planes were never truly discovered, otherwise the whole Wizarding World would move to this Plane and live there instead of on earth, where resources were already becoming scarcer and harder to produce.

"There's no fear in your eyes, even in this situation you find yourself in." Asterion commented, looking at Herpo's completely peaceful and gentle face, as if he wasn't afraid of being killed.

"I am important, I have important information for this war, as well as knowledge accumulated over two thousand years, we can be civilized wizards and negotiate without such barbaric methods as fighting and torture." Even without arms, Herpo tried to appear gentle, courteous and polite, as if the conflict between him and Asterion never existed.

But it wasn't as if Herpo would forget something so important, only that in his eyes, only interests are eternal, enemies could become friends with just a simple exchange of words. After all, no one would be stupid enough to kill someone so important, right?

"Yes, that is indeed one option, but I have another that would benefit me even more, as well as quenching my thirst for revenge against you." Asterion's lips lifted in a gentle smile as he looked at Herpo as if he were looking at a treasure box in a role-playing game.

Herpo was confused, but his gaze turned to pure horror as the space distorted and a small girl of about fifteen emerged from space. A black Victorian dress full of frills clung to her body perfectly as she held a Cookie in one hand.

"She's beautiful, isn't she? The pinnacle of the mortal world." Asterion put his arms around Morgan's shoulders and commented in a genuinely happy and proud tone. He felt like someone who got lost in the desert and finally drank some water, seeing the pure horror in the eyes of the Two Thousand Year Old Wizard.

Even with his experience and accumulated knowledge, Herpo was terrified of what Morgan represented.

"Are you crazy, do you think that the Aspects of Existence have allowed such an abomination that breaks all the rules of the universe?" Herpo spoke, his voice tinged with a pure fear born from his heart.

"What are you talking about, dear Herpo? I ignored all the laws of the universe by creating Morgan. Aren't you happy? This is the fruit of our ideology, a world where there are no rules, we wizards are the rules." Showing a smile that would frighten any child, Asterion spoke, each word making his eyes look more and more frightening.

A spiral of darkness appeared in his gaze, showing the inner madness he was desperately trying to quell at every moment.

It was at that moment that Herpo realized something: Asterion Black was an anomaly that should never have appeared in this world, a monster in every sense of the word that had no limits to his imagination.

"Maybe that really is the true root of magic, imagination without limits or scruples." Herpo muttered to himself with an emotionless look on his face.

"Morgan, extract all his memories and save them, then destroy him completely." Asterion didn't care what Herpo muttered and ordered with a gentle tone for Morgan, but terribly cold for Herpo.

Morgan didn't hesitate, she approached Herpo and when she was centimeters away from him, she reached forward and touched his chest with her index finger.

"You win this round, Asterion. My true body will awaken, I hope we'll have a battle of knowledge then." Herpo looked at Asterion and spoke in a gentle tone, returning to his earlier calm.

As soon as he had finished speaking, his body began to expand rapidly, like a balloon inflating and with a sickening sound of bones breaking and blood splattering on the floor, his body exploded directly!

"At last that mouse is dead." Asterion muttered to himself, feeling exhaustion take over him completely, the Blessing of Jörmungund was over.

Chapter 241: Chapter 238 – Battle Between Special Grade Wizards (5)

Seeing the pool of blood spread out on the floor, Asterion felt a sense of satisfaction bubble up in his chest. He had wanted to make Herpo suffer for the conspiracies and attacks against him for a long time. Now, he had finally achieved what he had wanted to do for a long time.

When Patriarch Black took a step forward, he felt a weakness in his legs and almost fell to his knees in front of Herpo's pool of blood. If it hadn't been for Morgan, who had already predicted that he would fall, he would have fallen to the ground with his face in the dirt and fallen asleep right there. Every part of his body ached.

Even breathing was an extremely exhausting task, Asterion knew that these were the after-effects that were bound to appear when he pushed himself beyond his limits. In all honesty, he should have suffered from such after-effects ten seconds after using that amount of infinite magical energy. But because of his regeneration, which made him practically immortal, the after-effects didn't appear.

Without command, Morgan kissed Asterion's forehead and all the injuries, fatigue and any negative state disappeared as if they had never existed. It was also Asterion's confidence to fight for so long against so many Special Grade beings. He had a hack called Morgan Black.

Even if Jörmungund's Blessing disappeared and he faced the after-effects after five minutes, with Morgan's help, he could use Jörmungund's Blessing as many times as necessary! Everyone complains about hackers in games, but when you're the one using the hack, it doesn't matter.

Standing up again, Asterion stroked Morgan's hair and commented with a gentle smile. "Thank you, Morgan. When we get back, I'll personally bake you a batch of Cookies."

Morgan's eyes lit up at Asterion's words. If she had known that this was the prize for killing that insect, she would have duplicated it and killed it infinite times in different ways to win infinite Cookies from her brother/master!

After all, her Cookies might be good, but the Cookies made by her brother were even better!

If Herpo had known Morgan's thoughts, he would probably have suffered a heart attack with such sadistic and completely inhuman thoughts.

Asterion, who didn't know that Morgan was extremely sorry for killing Herpo so quickly, looked over at Obelisk and Victor's fight against Philip, but when he looked back, he only saw Victor and Obelisk standing there.

He snorted coldly at the sight of Philip's body in front of them. Arriving quickly at their side, Asterion asked with a dissatisfied tone. "Philip escaped?"

Morgan had already turned invisible again and was waiting for more kill orders, eager to earn more Cookies. In her eyes at that moment, anyone was XP and the reward for passing a level was Cookies.

Victor, who had been recruited by Asterion, felt a little ashamed. This was a good chance to get into Asterion's good graces, but he had failed and allowed Philip de Bourbon to escape.

"He gained distance and Apparated." Victor replied with a helpless tone. His Innate Technique wasn't exactly a good one when it came to containing enemies. Besides, if a Special Grade Wizard wanted to escape, he could quickly gain distance and Apparate away.

Not everyone was like Asterion, who had absurd amounts of Magical Energy to reinforce his body at all times during the fight. Fighting like this was extremely energy-intensive, which all veteran Wizards and Witches avoided on the battlefield. After all, there wasn't just one enemy.

"It doesn't matter." Although he was dissatisfied with Philip's escape, having the prince alive was more profitable. "Once he returns to France defeated and alone, it will be a huge blow to the morale of the French Coalition. It will be like when Napoleon failed to invade Russia and returned with only tens of thousands of soldiers, leaving 500,000 French dead on foreign soil."

Victor nodded, agreeing with Asterion's words. He could imagine the blow to French morale at that moment. The war had only just begun, but they had already lost a major battle on the important Spanish border.

Honestly, Asterion expected the French wizards to start protests and even a rebellion. Although the latter was only a vague hope. After all, the French government could still force the population to back down using force, especially at this delicate time.

As Asterion finished his internal monologue, he heard a furious roar and the Black Dome above them shattered into thousands of pieces, disappearing completely. The figures of Ouroboros and Oyama could be seen again.

Large scars had appeared on Ouroboros' body, but apart from that, there was nothing else, injuries were the most trivial damage that could happen to a Cursed Spirit. As long as they had Negative Magical Energy, they could regenerate infinitely, just like Asterion's state when he got Jörmungund's Blessing.

Oyama, on the other hand, didn't look well. Half of his body had disappeared and he wasn't regenerating. Like Wizards and Witches, using Domain Expansion consumed large amounts of Negative Magical Energy.

"Well done, Ouroboros." Asterion smiled and appeared next to Oyama. The silver serpent seemed happy to be praised by his father and moved his gigantic body around him with graceful movements.

Asterion laughed at the Silver Serpent's reaction and stretched out his hand towards the Special Grade Cursed Spirit and muttered. "Exorcize-"

Just as he was about to start the process, Asterion heard the Cursed Spirit speak.

"Wait!"

Looking at him, Asterion waited and looked curiously at the Cursed Spirit.

"I can fight for you too." Oyama spoke, his voice hoarse and tired, but his six eyes stared at Asterion with a pleading look. Even if he couldn't die completely, reviving after some time, he would no longer be him when that happened. A new Oyama would be born, keeping only his memories. He didn't want that to happen.

"If you tell me the basis of Herpo and his group of freaks, I can accept your proposal." Showing a gentle, polite smile, Asterion spoke with a tone full of charisma and confidence, as if he hadn't just lied.

Oyama's face changed dramatically listening to the powerful human's words, he really wanted to live, but he would never betray his teammates.

He wanted an ideal world where Cursed Spirit could walk through the world without being killed every step of the way. Betraying his friends was the same as betraying his ideal, how could he do something so cruel and untrustworthy of his friends.

"You can ask for anything else, but I won't betray my friends." Oyama, after a while in silence, spoke with a serious and unchanging tone. No matter what Asterion might say, it wouldn't change his mentality and determination at all.

Victor looked at the Cursed Spirit speaking with a curious eye, it was the first time he had seen a Cursed Spirit speak, and it seemed that he had a similar intelligence to any normal human. What's more, the Cursed Spirit's sense of honor and loyalty really shocked him.

Who would have thought that a Cursed Spirit could do something so out of the ordinary as the very being in front of him? In his eyes, it was truly incredible that a being spawned from evil human thoughts could do something so human and genuinely good.

Asterion's gentle smile disappeared upon hearing the Cursed Spirit's words. In place of the kind, warm smile was a cold smile and a look so cold, it sent chills through Victor's body.

"What an admirable sense of loyalty, I really want to see when your companions see your friend, fighting against themselves."

Without any hesitation, Asterion muttered coldly. "Exorcize."

A blue dome appeared around the Special Grade Cursed Spirit. Oyama, knowing the fate he was about to suffer, wanted to blow himself up and be born again in the near future, but unfortunately for him, the Exorcizing process had already begun. His body began to decompose extremely quickly.

The more his body disintegrated, the more Oyama struggled, he wanted to run away, to blow himself up and escape from the monster in front of him, but it was no use, his body completely disintegrated into a yellowish orb in the hand of the same being that was about to enslave him.

"Bael, Mina, Yasuke, Yang... I'm sorry... but I hope to see you one last time... my friends..." It was Oyama's last thought, before all his will and being were controlled by Asterion in a mere instant.

Watching Asterion swallow the Orb, Victor couldn't help but wonder what it tasted like. "What does it taste like, Lord Black?"

"Think of the worst taste you can imagine and multiply it by ten." Asterion replied indifferently as he waved his hand, collecting all the Cursed Spirits from him.

Victor looked at Asterion with admiration. Don't get it wrong, if he had such an Innate Technique, he would do the same as Asterion without any hesitation. But Asterion was fourteen, almost fifteen, and Victor, at fifteen, definitely couldn't swallow an orb of that taste without showing any reaction.
