Chapter 21: His Flower

Following Mr. Bennett closely, Avery Miller observed the elderly man carrying a toolbox, dressed in a plain, yet frequently worn, blue-black linen shirt. 

Mr. Bennett reminisced about his younger days, marked by poverty and the struggle to find a bride that left his family restless. 

His fortunes turned when a relative introduced him to a girl. 

On the day he was to meet her, he encountered and heroically rescued Ethan's father from a car accident. 

Learning of his pending date and lack of decent attire, the old man gifted him the very shirt he was wearing, a garment he cherished to this day.

"So this shirt is the reason you ended up marrying Eleanor Thompson?" Avery inquired as they turned a corner on the cobblestone path. 

Mr. Bennett's face, flushed with a youthful blush, bore a shy smile, prompting Avery to laugh heartily, marveling at the timeless beauty of love.
