Chapter 58: Danger

Alice subconsciously glanced over and saw half a head poking out from a hill on the opposite side. Faintly, there were a few figures swaying, clearly indicating that the villagers were watching them.

Well, as long as they weren't foolish, they wouldn't allow them to return easily and spread the word.

In fact, there was not no solution. She could infiltrate the granary, collect all the grains into her space, and then release them. The only problem was where to put the emptied grains; you couldn't just make a hundred thousand tons of rice appear out of thin air.

At night, they set up camp on the basketball court. Since there were no buildings here, they could only sleep in their cars.

Alice took out a fireproof blanket and spread it on the back seat of the car, preparing to cook. Hurley brought a lot of ingredients. "How about hot pot tonight?"

"Sure."As usual, the two worked together. Hurley never ate for free; most of the ingredients were provided by him. While he went to get something, Alice took out the hot pot base from her space. When Hurley returned, a fragrant smell filled the car.

They ate while cooking, and the cold outside couldn't bother them. Hurley also brought two bottles of orange-flavored soda, and there were fruits on the small table nearby.

"The steak is delicious; let me get you one." Alice scooped some into his bowl.

Hurley also put well-cooked beef and shrimp into her bowl.

The fragrance made others salivate again, wishing they could be sworn siblings with them and share the good fortune.

Some people did consider this, but unfortunately, Hurley and Alice were too indifferent. They answered one in ten questions, and unnecessary words were ignored. After a few attempts, those who wanted to build a good relationship with them for a worry-free life gave up on the idea.

After eating their fill, Craig gathered everyone for a meeting. "Who is willing to return to the base tomorrow to report and settle the reward? I'll add two hundred kilograms of rice when we settle."

The condition immediately excited those present, and Marquis and Octavio, who Craig persuaded to stay, immediately spoke up, "We'll go."

Others stood up immediately, expressing their willingness."I can do it."I drive fast, let me do it."

Craig raised his hand in the air, signaling them to quiet down, "I haven't finished speaking yet. Whoever can infiltrate the granary to gather information, I'll add five hundred kilograms of rice to their reward when we settle."

"This..."People hesitated. This task was much more challenging than going back to report. The villagers guarded the granary so tightly, could anyone come out after entering?

Alice raised her hand, "Craig, I can give it a try."

"Count me in," Hurley added, raising his hand as well.

Craig surveyed the group and found only the two of them raised their hands. He sighed, "Okay, it's you two."

"Marquis and Octavio will go back to report." Craig finally made his decision.

Craig noticed this and continued, "Don't be discouraged, others who perform well in this grain transportation operation will also be rewarded."

Upon hearing this, the others showed joy on their faces.

As night fell, Craig worried about possible ambushes by villagers on the way, so he escorted Marquis and Octavio out with a few others.

Meanwhile, Hurley and Alice quietly approached the wall of the granary. Hurley calculated the blind spots of the sentries, moving inch by inch.

After searching for a while, they finally found a low wall. Seizing the opportunity when the sentry changed, the two quickly climbed the wall and jumped into the granary. The granary had a total of six granaries, neatly arranged, with guards outside. One of the granaries had lights on, and many villagers were moving bags of rice.

"I thought they would defend the granary to the death, but it seems they are not fools."

The granary had water, electricity, food, and drinks—living here was like living in paradise. Others might find it hard to leave, but Alice whispered, "The principle of not losing the big picture is understood by everyone. However, they probably started moving recently; only one-third of the rice in Warehouse 1 has been moved."

From the open door, they could see bags of grain piled up inside. It wasn't until three in the morning that the villagers stopped moving and locked the door of the granary again.

Once they left, Alice and Hurley split up. Hurley went to investigate the granary's exit and layout, while Alice went to the other granaries.

Two people at the entrance of one granary lazily leaned against the wall chatting. One of them yawned, "Can't sleep during the day, and at night, I'm dead tired.""Get yourself together; the village chief said that someone might come to steal the grain today. They might sneak in at midnight."

"Don't worry, there are patrols everywhere in the granary. If they dare to come, they won't leave alive.""That's right, one comes, one gets beaten; two come, we'll beat a pair."Little did the two boastful individuals know that at this moment, someone had already infiltrated the granary.

Alice surveyed the granary, and all around her were mountains of neatly stacked rice bags.

On rows of five-meter-high iron shelves, bags of rice weighing fifty kilograms each were neatly arranged. Labels on top indicated the production date and quantity. One shelf held twenty thousand bags of rice.

Alice directly placed the entire shelf into her space, emptying one granary in just ten minutes.

This emergency supply of food belonged to the base, and she wouldn't claim it for herself. She just moved them out to prevent the granary from being emptied by the time reinforcements from the base arrived.

After emptying one granary, she sneaked into the second, then the third, and so on.

Arriving at the last granary, villagers had already emptied two rows of shelves, roughly forty thousand bags of fifty-kilogram rice.

The millions of kilograms of rice taken by the villagers would sustain them for a long time, and Alice collected all that remained.

After completing all this, Alice silently left the granary. She was about to find Hurley when she saw him standing outside the third granary, seemingly searching for the entrance.

Alice picked up a small stone and quickly threw it towards him.

Hurley immediately noticed and looked over. His sharp gaze softened upon seeing Alice.

Alice gestured for him to leave, and Hurley nodded gently in understanding.

The two approached the low wall they climbed in through, quickly disappearing into the cover of the night.
