Chapter 12: End of the Human Burglars

Watching the slimes bouncing over towards the group of panicking humans trying their best to find a way out, Scaly triumphantly smiled to herself after having hidden away beneath a nearby rock.
Having the slimes that were all over the second floor of the dungeon deal with the humans for her was a much better option than having to risk fighting them herself. After all, she did not want to end up being hunted down like the great earth lizard she had seen back on the first floor of the dungeon…
If not for the fact that she was afraid of this happening, Scaly would have been more than willing to join the slimes in taking care of the group of humans who had just destroyed her home!
Boing~!
"Ah! Careful, the green slimes can shoot acid!"
However, hearing the panicked screams of the humans as they fought off against the increasing mass of slimes bouncing towards them from all sides, Scaly felt that it was not too bad to watch from the side while the slimes took care of the humans for her.
…
"Boss- Ah!"
The first person had died! Consumed by the angry slimes bouncing all over the place as they launched different attacks towards all of them.
Hearing the scream of the subordinate who had led him down to the second floor of the dungeon to look for a blue lizard, the boss of the human burglars turned around just in time to see him consumed by a dozen or so slimes covering his entire body.
"I have to get out of here!"
Muttering this to himself as he realized how bad their current situation was, the boss of the human burglars swung his axe around to deflect a few slimes jumping towards him before looking for a way out.
"There!"
"No!"
"Boss, why?!"
Whoosh!
Seeing an opening, the boss of the human burglars didn't care about his subordinates, as he grabbed hold of the last two of them before throwing them into a large group of slimes currently blocking the path towards the staircase leading back up to the first floor of the dungeon.

Along with the slimes happily attacking the two human burglars that suddenly came flying towards them, the boss of the human burglars quickly rushed out in the same direction.
Using his two pitiful subordinates as a distraction for him to rush past the now distracted slimes blocking the path back up towards the first floor of the dungeon!
The entire thing happened so quickly, that the two subordinates had no time to react before their boss had already left them behind with a horde of slimes bearing down on them, while he was making his way towards the staircase leading back up to the first floor of the dungeon.
"Haha! I'm not going down to a bunch of slimes-"
Whoosh~!
Before the boss of the burglars had any time to react, a water spear suddenly appeared out of nowhere before piercing through his head.
Bang!
Instantly killing the boss of the human burglars, as his now dead body fell to the ground before being swarmed by the nearby slimes.
Not expecting any of this to happen, the other human burglars felt their confidence to fight back decrease even further. In their eyes, they believed that a higher-ranking water slime might have appeared. Maybe even a slime king!
This would at least explain why so many slimes had gathered, but at the same time also meant that they would most likely not be able to escape.
After all, a slime king was an existence that was far stronger than anything they could ever hope to deal with. Even the giant earth lizard that had appeared on the first floor, was nothing when compared to the might of a slime king!

Not feeling the least bit happy about having to deal with the boss of the burglars by herself, Scaly could not help frowning when she watched the remaining burglars who had barely managed to get up alive after being thrown to the slimes by their boss.
"How did we manage to encounter something like a slime king!?"
"Brother… Looks like we won't be able to get out of here…"
Hm? A slime king? They think a slime king killed their boss!?"
Hearing the conversation between the two remaining human burglars, Scaly could not help wondering just what they were talking about. At least it seemed like they believed that something other than her was behind the entire thing.
With this in mind, if she helped one of them escape, the humans coming to check up on what had happened would most likely not suspect a small lizard like her! Instead, they would come looking for the slime king mentioned by these two…
Thinking about this, Scaly felt like it might be a good idea to help one of the two remaining burglars escape and put the blame of the entire thing on the slime king mentioned by them!
Rustle~
Deciding to help one of the two burglars escape, Scaly decided to make a path for one of the two to escape. However, she still had to make it believable enough that the burglar escaping would not suspecting that anything was wrong.
So…

"ARGH! My Arm! NO! Brother!"

Using most of her mana to fire off a powerful water spear that directly pierced through several slimes along with the arm of one of the burglars and the head of the other, Scaly patiently watched as the now one-armed burglar looked at the now dead burglar fall to the ground with a pained expression on his face.
"Damn all of you slimes and your slime king!"
Screaming loudly filled with killing intent, the burglar seemed to have discovered the path that had opened up, as he used his last remaining strength to rush through the opening before making his way up the staircase leading to the first floor of the dungeon.
In the end, everything went as planned and it didn't look like the burglar suspected anything wrong with the sudden escape path that had opened up following his brother's death!
Rustle~
Thinking this to herself, Scaly didn't stay around for long, as she quickly escaped from the tunnel filled with slimes before they had any time to find her.
