Chapter 15
The next day, Draco was back in his tower.
Today, he would finalize the core magic of his future business.
Draco went to the top floor, where he had carved the giant rune circle, that he had filled with bismuth crystal the day before.
Onto the bismuth crystals in the walls, mirrors had to be attached.
Draco made these mirrors himself, so they could be enchanted at their core.
The process began with the cleaning and polishing of the glass substrate to remove impurities and contaminants.
Afterwards he coated the surface with a thin layer of silver to reflect the light, allowing the mirror to create images by reflection.
He did one section of the large round wall at a time.
In the end, the whole wall was fully covered with mirrors, or one giant mirror.
When this was done, only one last step was missing.
The final enchantment.
Draco stood in the center of the room right in front of the basin for melting bismuth, and held up his wand.
He gathered his focus until it was razor-sharp, then he started a long and complicated chant.
The muggles' research of the magical portrait spell had had created this magic, that Draco had unearthed after the Third World War, when he had been wandering the apocalyptic earth.
Half an hour later, when the last syllable of the chant had been uttered, a face suddenly appeared in the mirror.
It reminded him of the muggle fairy tale movie ‚Shrek', when the muggle Lord talked to the floating face in the mirror in the beginning of the movie, asking how to become a king and getting introduced to the bachelorette princesses.
Only the floating face in Draco's mirror was much more handsome, no surprise there, since it was his own face.
But not his current face, it was the handsome and cute face of his eleven-year-old self.
Draco was sure his cute childish face would even be better received by the people than his handsome teenager face.
„Hello Maker, how can I serve you?"
The artificial magical spirit of himself greeted Draco with childish enthusiasm and with a big smile.
„Hello. Do you know your purpose?"
Draco asked eagerly, really curios to find out if the magic had worked as intended.
„Yes. My main purpose is the management, upkeep and surveillance of the Magic Mirror Network."
The childlike artificial magical spirit announced proudly.
‚Very good.', thought Draco.
And the cute childish personality was just as charming and endearing as intended too.
„Very good. I name you Dragon, may this name give you strength and appeal to the population. Let's not waste time and do a first test right away."
Draco got to work again and created a handheld mirror this time.
As base he used wood, and he carved runes on the side where the glass of the mirror was attached.
Afterwards, he coated the surface with silver.
Then he transformed the wood again so that the rim would close in the edge of the mirror glass, and hold it firm.
At last, Draco holed out a stick-like opening at the top of the mirror.
Then he went down beside the basin where he had melted the bismuth the day before, and pulled one Bismuth Crystal Stick out of the pedestal.
He inserted the Bismuth Crystal Stick into the handheld mirror.
Draco let his magic flow into the mirror, Draco's reflection disappeared and Dragon's head appeared instead.
„Hello, Maker. It looks like it works."
Dragon smiled at him from the handheld mirror.
Draco looked up, and there was still a head of Dragon floating in the giant wall mirror.
„Good. Now, put me through to the tower."
Draco told the Dragon in his handheld mirror.
Dragon complied right away.
Dragon's head disappeared in a white swirl, and the scene of Draco standing next to the basin with a handheld mirror in his hand appeared in the handheld mirror.
Great, the video call function worked perfectly, hopefully it would stay that way no matter how many connections had to be upheld at the same time.
„Dragon, try to create as many simultaneous incarnations of yourself in the great wall mirror as you can."
Hundreds of floating faces, looking like his angelic eleven-year-old self, suddenly filled the whole round mirror wall, and started asking „How can I serve you?" in canon.
„Great. Now go back to one."
Draco still had to check how far the reception went and install bismuth crystal relays, his goal was to cover the whole world with the Magic Mirror Network.
Maybe he could built small relays into every single mirror, that way the people would automatically carry them into the world.
It was an idea, even if he couldn't cover the whole planet this way, he definitely would have to install less additional relays.
For now, he was very happy with his work.
„How about the recording function? Make a recording of me and then show it to me when you are done."
Draco was glad to see this worked too.
Before he went home, Draco fully activated the ward for the top floor, just to be safe, since the core of his Magic Mirror Network was of such importance.
...
This evening, Draco excused himself from dinner at home and visited London.
The fact that his father was away shopping for potions or something like that made it even completely trouble-free.
A little house in a middle class muggle street in the northern part of London was his destination.
In his former time, Draco had never visited when the house's original owners still had been alive.
Years after their deaths, Draco had visited this place, because it had been one of Harry's safe houses at that time.
The street looked much cleaner and not as dilapidated as in his memory, by far.
Draco checked with the Black ring to affirm that at least one of the people he wanted to talk to tonight was present.
She was, and the one he could do without wasn't there, he could live with that.
The only question remaining was if the man of the house was there, since Draco didn't have a sample of his blood or his ancestor's blood in the Black ring, he couldn't tell from the outside.
At least not without additional magic...
