Chapter 73: Great Risk, Great Reward

Lucy and Ryan had already went into the tent to offer their taxes when the guard walking with the baron came up to them.

"The King asks for your presence, both of you."

The baron could only smile awkwardly, he more or less knew why they were required. He was the one who told the King about the new inventions after all. He just wished the man would he reasonable and not be so angry that he kills them on the spot.

Lucy's panic came right back her eyes darted between the baron and the guard, she could see a hundred different scenarios this could play out. If they were caught harbouring a demon it would be the end of their lineage.

A notorious crime in Serburgh wasn't punishable just by death. They had a way to completely separate the body from the soul and destroying that soul while the body was left like a zombie to do whatever it is they wanted.
