I hadn't really thought about what it meant to have a mate, but as soon as my mouse saw Lucien, it was like she folded like a house of cards.

I had been so impressed with how calm and cool she had been with the whole situation up to this point that I thought we had finally reached a point where her instincts didn't take over every other second.

But as soon as we heard Lucien's voice, it was like a child finally seeing her parent. I went from a human barely able to turn my head to look at my mate to a four inch mouse, leaping off the bed and scrambling up his arm until I could burrow myself into his neck.

I could feel her body trembling with terror as the monitors started to scream out, now that I was no longer hooked up to them.
