Chapter 183: Chapter 183: Liberation

Buzz!

A pitch-black muscle car was deftly weaving through the traffic lanes.

Hearing the curses from drivers nearby, York had an expressionless face as he continued to press the accelerator, executing a complex drift at the intersection that was difficult for others but easy for him, quickly turning into the right lane without slowing down.

Boom!

This massive impact and illusion scared the driver of a nearby car to a halt, watching in awe as the monstrous vehicle smoothly slid past.

"Damn! Who is this crazy lunatic!"

The startled African American driver cursed aloud, wanting to confront the other driver and teach him about the power of a black man's fist. But in a blink, he realized all he saw was a rapidly disappearing taillight.

"Damn!"

Fuming, the driver slammed his hand on the steering wheel, breaking into an impromptu rap...

But York didn't hear any of it; he was pondering whether this supernatural case was eligible to trigger a random mission.

With his current power, triggering random missions was much harder than before.

Besides, he was also thinking about preparations for a potential battle.

Now, the car only contained the weapons he had prepared for dealing with the disc incident.

"If it's a monster or something, ten Holy Hand Grenades and a rocket launcher with two armor-piercing warheads should be enough..."

Leaving the city, he sped into a less populated suburban area.

The car's speed increased further.

Speeding along, he entered a community and, in the blink of an eye, York, with his exceptional vision, already saw Jeffrey and others waiting in front of a low-rise building.

Since they were already in the city, the distance wasn't far with such speed.

Boom!

What York didn't know was that Jeffrey and others waiting on the opposite side tensed up as they saw the fierce car approaching.

"What is this?"

Some officers even reached for the guns on their belts.

"Wait!"

Jeffrey commanded firmly, watching the impactful car, uncertain in his heart.

After all, the speeding car looked different from the Ford Raptor previously used by the priest.

But as it neared, he recognized the familiar figure in the driver's seat.

"Relax, everyone! He's one of us!" Jeffrey called out.

The officers behind him looked at each other and reluctantly let go of their hands resting on their gun holsters, watching the muscle car rush towards them.

Just then, the fierce car, accompanied by a screeching halt, came to a stop.

The sudden gust and its fierce presence forced many officers to step back.

Only Jeffrey stood still, seeing the priest's robust figure through the window. For some reason, he suddenly felt his tense body relax.

"Father York!"

No matter where he was, Father York naturally had a reassuring presence.

Releasing the brake, York glanced at Jeffrey and others, grabbed the equipment bag he never parted with during missions, and got out of the car.

"So what's the situation? Is the information ready?"

Holding the bag, York looked at the building, calmly awaiting Jeffrey's guidance.

"Take a look."

Since Jeffrey had called the priest, he naturally had everything prepared, handing over the compiled information about the Brulo family and the current events.

York calmly accepted it, quickly flipping through the photos of the scene.

Jeffrey's suspicions weren't wrong.

The doubts in these two cases were indeed too many, and both were quite peculiar, fitting the supernatural explanation best.

Looking at the photos, York roughly determined their nature.

If it really was a supernatural case, then these people must have been under illusions or controlled by evil spirits.

Only illusions and control could explain these incomprehensible suicides and inexplicable fights. If it were a monster, there would be traces left behind, but these photos showed only self-inflicted injuries.

"Looks like it's not a demon; if it were, there would be a manifestation of supernatural powers..."

But as he flipped through, York noticed some suspicious photos.

Some bodies were twisted unnaturally, bent as if some unknown force had twisted them into pretzels.

Most importantly, the living creatures at the scene weren't just humans; even cute little animals died bizarrely in place.

When he saw the photo of the unidentified female corpse, York narrowed his eyes: "If the source is this body, then there are only a few possibilities..."

Just as he thought this, his eyes revealed a knowing look.

Seeing the source, a random mission was triggered.

[...] [Condition Met: Random Mission Triggered]

[Mission Requirement: Grant liberation to the unidentified female corpse] [Mission Reward: +15 Attribute Points] [Accept/Decline]

"Fifteen points, the liberation task is probably not just a simple humane destruction; there might be more to it."

York stared at the photo of the unidentified female corpse, puzzled.

With his current strength, unless it was the devil itself, with his critical and true damage abilities, he didn't think a simple supernatural event could stop him.

So a simple humane destruction or exorcism wouldn't be too difficult for him, but the reward rising to fifteen points made him think deeper.

"Liberation?"

York thought harder. If the mission's liberation didn't mean destruction or exorcism, then it might mean alleviating someone's troubles, freeing them from constraints, and achieving mental and physical freedom.

"Could this unidentified female corpse have some other secrets?"

Thinking this, York stared at the naked corpse and mentally accepted the mission.

[Acceptance Successful] The preliminary work was done, and it was time to engage with the event.

York put away the information and calmly looked at the building.

"Has everyone inside been evacuated?"

"Everyone has been evacuated," Jeffrey nodded, aware of the protocols in supernatural events.

"That's good."

York continued, "Without my notice, no one is allowed to enter."

"Yes, Father."

Hearing the answer, York, with the information in hand, prepared to enter the building alone under the watchful eyes of Jeffrey and others, but then he seemed to remember something.

"Oh, by the way, take care of the traffic police that followed me; I was speeding."

Jeffrey was momentarily stunned.

"I'll leave it to you."

Seeing Jeffrey's bewildered response, York smiled calmly and began to walk into the building.

As he entered, the entire building was silent, like entering a mute zone, eerily quiet.

"A perfect setting for a horror movie."

York wasn't concerned, following the map from the information, he walked to the right, heading towards the underground autopsy department.

While walking, he unzipped his backpack.

Forgoing the risky option of taking the elevator, he reached the stairwell. York stopped, took out weapons from his backpack, and equipped himself.

Initial scouting was essential, and before depleting his technological weapons, magic and mental strength must be the last resort.
