Chapter 91: Chapter 91: Preparations

Janet appeared troubled, "I can feel It right in front of me, but I just can't see It."

She couldn't understand what was happening.

York smiled, unsurprised by this outcome.

As the saying goes, gods cannot be directly looked upon unless They allow you to see Them. So, it's not that you can't see, but that you're either too weak or at too low a level.

For instance, some things are invisible to ordinary people but visible to Janet or Lorraine.

And at a higher level, things that Janet and Lorraine cannot see are visible only to him. That's the principle.

In simple terms, differences in levels determine the extent of vision and capabilities.

Of course, Janet hasn't fully developed her talent yet, like a young bird unable to see the eagles flying high in the sky.

"It's not that you can't see, but It is so powerful that It has blocked your perception."

Seeing Janet's still puzzled, childlike incomprehension, York couldn't help but reach out and pat her head.

"When you become stronger, nothing will be able to hide from your sight."

Janet seemed to grasp the meaning, about to say something, but the door suddenly opened, interrupting her.

"Mom?"

Janet turned to see Peggy entering and greeted her first.

Peggy, initially worried and deciding to check in, felt somewhat awkward upon witnessing such a harmonious scene.

"Uh, sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt..."

She had thought their conversation might not be going well and worried Janet might put the priest in an awkward position. To her surprise, it seemed they were getting along quite well.

"It's okay, Mrs. Peggy, I was about done asking my questions anyway," York said, withdrawing his hand and standing up to smile at Janet.

"Child, there's more warmth and company downstairs. Staying alone might make you vulnerable to Its influence."

Janet instinctively looked at her mother.

Peggy pressed her lips together and nodded encouragingly.

Janet then looked up at York, who exuded a sense of security.

"Can I really go out?"

"Why not?" York replied in a light tone. "I'll handle what comes next. Child, you're free now."

Hearing this, Janet looked at her mother and then at York again.

York understood and encouraged, "It's okay, go on."

Seeing this, Janet quickly got up, no longer holding back her thoughts, and rushed to her mother, embracing Peggy tightly.

"Mom!"

"My poor, good child," Peggy's eyes were red as she hugged her daughter tightly.

York stood watching this beautiful scene, a smile on his face.

...

[17:24]

With York's intervention and the dispelling of the dark miasma, the house, long shrouded in gloom, regained its rightful appearance. Though not filled with laughter, the vitality of a family of five was somewhat restored.

Janet, Margaret, and the other three children sat on the couch, chattering and hugging each other non-stop.

Meanwhile, Peggy, seated to the right of the couch, displayed motherly affection and satisfaction despite her tired face.

On the left of the couch, Ed, Morris, and Drew, who was cracking jokes, discussed quietly.

Behind them sat Lorraine, who had woken up, smiling at something and glancing at York sitting in a corner.

This harmonious scene in a house haunted by paranormal activity was all thanks to York, earning Lorraine's respectful gaze.

Unbeknownst to her, York, looking at the couch, mused to himself.

"What kind of spirit is this? Too cowardly?"

Staring at what seemed to be a trembling, blurry figure still on the couch, York shook his head, turned to Lorraine, who was also looking his way, and decided to ask.

"Lorraine, do you sense anything?"

Lorraine, having been watching, sensed carefully before shaking her head and answering truthfully.

"Father, I don't sense anything."

Hearing this, York had no choice but to give up, sighing, "Well, we'll have to see tonight."

At this, Lorraine couldn't help asking, "Father, do you think what's happening here is real?"

Since waking up, she had been sensing but hadn't detected anything unusual. Everything seemed normal, as if no paranormal activity had occurred.

"Mm."

York didn't hide the truth, piecing together the information revealed by Janet. He guessed the situation, missing only a thread yet to be untangled.

The spirit Bill was likely good, coerced and enslaved by a more powerful being tasked with wearing down Janet's will. However, Bill limited himself to minor acts like moving Janet's position or chairs.

This powerful being wasn't just relying on Bill; it had created a monster for a second line of defense. But since Bill hadn't yet fulfilled his role, this monster could only linger in its assigned area.

The only unknown was whether this being was the nun, but it seemed highly likely.

Still, this was only speculation, and he needed to talk with the spirit Bill directly.

For some reason, Bill had been hiding all day, refusing to show himself.

York felt a bit regretful, then took out a small holy Bluetooth speaker imbued with a bit of spiritual power from his backpack, sneakily placing it under the couch, and stood up with his bag.

His tall figure drew everyone's attention, changing the atmosphere momentarily, especially Janet, who became visibly tense, watching York as if his absence meant no security.

"Father York, where are you going?" Ed asked.

"I'll just take a look upstairs. Continue here."

York smiled reassuringly, particularly at a tense Janet, before heading upstairs, disappearing from everyone's view.

"Is Father York usually like this?" Morris asked Ed after watching him go.

"Mm."

Ed's expression was a mix of resignation and amusement, "Father York does what he wants, except for necessary matters. He never needs our help for anything."

Hearing this, Morris looked at Lorraine.

Lorraine affirmed, "Father York is different from us. What we can do is just wait for his instructions."
