Chapter 68: Simple and Brutal

"Damn it! You didn't say what the plan was!" Haley cursed in her mind, regretting that she had mentioned this matter to the priest that day. Betrayed and now led into a trap, she even thought about complaining.

Just as she was about to speak, the result of ringing the doorbell became evident.

The door did not open, but instead, a magnetic voice sounded first.

"Who are you?"

York, squinting his eyes as usual, thought the voice sounded quite pleasant. In his experience, this was the kind of voice women loved to hear, capable of giving them an ecstatic mental experience and conjuring up the image of a warm, handsome man.

With such a magnetic voice, and if he also looked good coupled with being a photographer, it wouldn't be hard for this psychopathic murderer to lure innocent young girls.

The voice from inside seemed to sense something was off and continued.

"I don't know you. If there's nothing important, please leave."

"..."

York squinted his eyes again. Should he say that this was a typical cowardly murderer, always on high alert?

"This is private property. Please leave, or I'll call the police!"

"..."

Haley's face turned ugly, bumping the priest beside her in blame. Their cover was blown, and her plan for tomorrow was probably ruined.

But before she could touch him, York, already sure the owner was home, lifted his foot and kicked the door fiercely.

This sudden action made Haley stiffen on the spot, her extended hand stopping mid-air. Her eyes widened in shock as she watched the seemingly sturdy door fly into the house like a toy under the priest's force, hitting the wall in the entrance.

With a loud bang, the door shattered, causing Haley to tremble. She suddenly understood the priest's earlier words about being simple, ruthless, and precise. Her previously confused mind cleared in that moment.

"Oh! Shit..."

Haley stood rigid, feeling a thrilling sensation all over her body.

"Haley, you're still young, it's best not to use foul language."

As York walked into the house with a nonchalant smile, followed by a hurried Haley, her eyes flashed with excitement.

Upon entering, the layout of the house was fully revealed.

The sofa, kitchen, and some other furniture blended well with the wall color, creating an elegant and beautiful look. The walls were adorned with photographs, typical decorations for a photographer.

In short, this was the kind of decor only the wealthy could afford. Wealth, plus a pleasant voice, and good looks, meant several advantages were in play, no wonder he had a good reputation outside.

"Look, that guy is trying to escape."

York, seeing the figure running to the back room, nonchalantly strode over, grabbing a water bottle from the hallway as he did.

Haley, still tingling, followed closely like a puppy, muttering excitedly.

"Respected priest! Beat him up! Teach him a lesson!"

"If possible, I will do that, Haley."

York calmly responded, striding to the room's door and kicking it open. The door shattered easily under his current physical prowess.

With another loud bang, York felt no resistance, and the door broke apart.

As the door shattered, he finally saw what the psychopathic murderer looked like.

Flowing blond hair, melancholic eyes, and sharp facial features. He somewhat resembled Ed Warren, but the overall combination did not detract from his handsomeness, his advantages now fully assembled.

He saw the man holding a phone, completely stunned, with the speakerphone still on.

"Hello, this is *** police station, do you need assistance?"

"No, sorry, I dialed the wrong number."

York smiled and responded, then looked at the murderer, who was beginning to react and retort, and smashed a vase towards him with controlled force.

With a crash, the vase shattered on the murderer, scattering fragments everywhere. The murderer was knocked back, hitting a cabinet and fainting on the spot.

"Oh! Oh! Oh!" Haley shouted excitedly from behind.

"Well done, respected priest!"

York glanced back at her, pleased to see her behaving like a child again.

"Hello?? Hello??" The phone on the floor continued with the receptionist's voice.

"What happened? Are you okay?"

York looked away, stepped on the shattered vase, crushed the still-active phone under his foot, then bent down to pick up the fainted murderer by the legs, dragging him out like a mop handle.

"Come on, child, we need to find evidence. Use your wits, think about where he might have hidden it..."

"Oye! Mission guaranteed!"

"..."

For a moment, Haley's active figure was everywhere in the house.

York, sitting on the sofa, glanced at the psychopath lying on the living room floor and shook his head.

Upon closer inspection, he felt the man indeed resembled Ed Warren, especially the facial contours and eyes.

Remembering he might have to meet the Warrens later, York stood up and walked towards a pile of decorative stones in the center of the living room.

"Don't think too hard, or it'll be awkward when meeting them later..."

At that moment, Haley came over with a bunch of letters, frowning.

Seeing Haley's worried expression, York already guessed the outcome.

"Didn't find anything?"

Hearing this, Haley shook her head, looking at the still-fainted murderer.

"Father, shall we wake him up and interrogate him harshly? I've looked up many ways to torture people online."

York couldn't help but think of those methods in his notebook.

"Haley, do you think a psychopath who knows how to disguise himself would tell you the truth? For him, telling the truth is also a dead end."

Haley spread her hands, "So, what should we do?"

York looked towards the decorative stone pile.

"Did you check here?"

"No."

Haley had just answered and then suddenly stared at the decorative stones, realizing that their placement seemed out of sync with the rest of the living room's layout.
