Chapter 87: Rabbit

Lokus watched them go silently, his fist clenching tight.

"I told you that the people of the Aldark are vile," Endalia reminded Lokus, slapping his shoulder. "One bad apple spoils the bunch, but one good apple doesn't make the others edible. In this world, it's them or you. Remember that."

Lokus didn't respond, burning the feel of this "Captain John" into his mind as the man sauntered off.

"That day cannot come soon enough," muttered Herbert absentmindedly. He shook his head suddenly, as if he had spoken out of turn, and eyed Sakari with a clinical countenance. "Rest well, woman. Weakness in Helannd is often punished by death."

That was all the man said before he scooped up his jar and left, leaving Lokus, Sakari, and Endalia alone in the blood-strewn square.

Sakari took one sniff and wrinkled her nose, only now noticing what surrounded them. "What did I miss?"

"Hell," Endalia said simply.
