Chapter 43: The Spirit Swamp Pool

In the mist world, survivors in various shelters eagerly awaited their results.

One minute... Two minutes... Three minutes...

At the fifth minute, the "Mist Survival Handbook" finally showed changes.

A giant letter appeared before everyone's eyes!

Was it A?

B maybe?

Or C?

D? E? F?

Eyes widened in anticipation, some filled with joy, others with sorrow.

Luke saw his letter and smiled slightly, a look of understanding crossing his calm face: "I didn't expect an S, top 10,000 globally! I wonder how James did."

...

Nancy's face was grim as she stared at the big D, sighing in resignation.

...

James, half-lying on his bed, let out a long sigh of relief, a relaxed expression on his face.

"Still so lucky! Top 10,000 globally... An S-grade ranking, what rewards will I get!"

As expected, his development pace was among the top.

The first, ten, or hundred might be difficult, but the top 10,000 seemed very likely.

There had been three global evaluations before.

The first was upgrading to a level two shelter on the first day; the second during a secret realm evaluation; and this current one.

In the previous two, James ranked high and received generous rewards.

Excellent-grade springs and crystal rice were all from those times.

Back then, the highest quality was excellent-grade, so he received excellent-grade items.

But now, after the system update, rare-grade items appeared.

James guessed that, being a global survivor ranking and in the top 10,000, the rewards should be rare-grade.

As expected, another system message soon arrived.

[Evaluation Reward]

Name: James

Rank: S

Rewards: 1. Random Resource Scroll ×1 (Rare-Grade)

2. Random Shelter Facility Scroll ×1 (Rare-Grade)

3. Silver Resource Box *2

4. Red-colored name in public chat channel, trading market, and private chat channel for one month.

Note: All survivors get different colored names based on their rank.

S: Red, A: Purple

B: Blue, C: Yellow

D: Green, E: Gray

F: White

Wow!!

Aside from the silver resource boxes, everything else was rare-grade!

James was prepared, but the rewards still surprised him!

He had never seen a rare-grade item before, but suddenly he had so many!

And not just him, all survivors were the same!

None had ever seen rare-grade items!

But now, nearly 20,000 rare-grade items would appear.

And all these items were concentrated among the top 10,000 best-developing survivors.

Not just James was excited, the other 9,999 survivors with S rank were equally thrilled.

Even the most composed were dazzled by these rewards.

After the ranking, the rewards were delivered.

Two silver-white resource boxes and two golden scrolls, the "Random Resource Scroll" and the "Random Shelter Facility Scroll," appeared before James.

Overwhelmed with happiness, James hesitated, unsure which to open first.

After much deliberation, he first picked up the "Random Shelter Facility Scroll."

As the name suggested, the content should be a rare-grade shelter facility, like a bedroom or kitchen.

After choosing to use the scroll, it slowly transformed, revealing the shape of a building in place of the previous "?".

It was a half-circular pool!

The Spirit Swamp Pool! Rare-grade!

James examined it carefully, unfamiliar with the structure that didn't seem of Earth.

But reading the description, he understood!

It was a biogas pool!

A small, 10 square meter pool, but with a powerful function.

[Name: Spirit Swamp Pool (Rare-Grade)

Function: Filters out the residual spirit energy from good-grade or higher items, forming pure spiritual matter.]

After reading the description several times, James understood the function of the Spirit Swamp Pool.

It could separate spiritual matter from any good-grade or higher items, be it plant, animal, or object.

It seemed to be a special biogas pool of the mist world, recycling waste into useful substances.

Initially, James wasn't too excited.

This rare-grade construction didn't impress him much and seemed somewhat bizarre.

After all, what use was so-called spiritual matter?

And where would he get so many good-grade waste items for recycling?

But then, recalling how he used spring water mixed with soil to create good-grade soil, he had an epiphany.

The energy in excellent-grade spring water was limited, but the spiritual matter separated by the Spirit Swamp Pool must be purer.

So, he could get purer spiritual matter through the pool to cultivate more good-grade soil.

It was indeed a valuable construction.

After deciding to use it, James set up the Spirit Swamp Pool behind his shelter.

Using some minerals, the wall was modified to include the pool.

Curious about what this rare-grade construction looked like, James braved the cold wind to take a look outside.

Regrettably, the Spirit Swamp Pool was unremarkable, just a 10 square meter structure resembling a puffed-up bread, quite unimpressive.

James consoled himself: It was a rare-grade construction, so it must have functions he hadn't discovered yet. Patience was key.

The most precious things often looked unassuming!

With this thought, he felt better.

James decided to test its function by throwing in a good-grade piece of wood.

The pool emitted a faint, muffled hum as it began to purify.

Minutes later, the pool ceased operating. Two items appeared in separate channels at the pool's back.

One was a piece of wood, the other a small bottle of liquid.

The principle was simple: the good-grade wood, after purification, lost its energy and spirit, reverting to ordinary-grade.

The separated spirit was collected in the glass bottle as spirit liquid.

Of course, James needed to manually replenish the pool's bottles, barrels, or cups.

Picking up the bottle, he found only a few drops of crystal-clear liquid at the bottom.

Understandable, considering it was just one unit of wood.

Holding the bottle to his nose, James sniffed and found the scent familiar.

This... was it the scent of the spring water?!

But richer and thicker, though diluted, it would probably taste just like the spring water!

"This is... another kind of spring?!" James wondered, slightly speechless.

But then he realized it was different.

The Spirit Swamp Pool's spirit liquid could be mixed with water or other substances.

Mixed with water, it could create a spirit spring.

Mixed with soil, it could make good-grade soil.

What if it was used on plants? Could it provide them with ample spirit?

And what about animals?

Or even consuming it himself?!

Gradually, James seemed to understand the real value of this rare-grade construction!

It was a means to artificially create good-grade items!
