Chapter 157: Big days ahead

Larry Rudolph found himself particularly intrigued and impressed by Lucas's musical talents, more so than his acting career. His interest lay in the potential crossover appeal Lucas could have, envisioning a unique path that merged music with visual media.

Conversely, Dave Becky was thoroughly impressed with Lucas's comedic timing in "Modern Family." He leaned in, enthusiasm evident, "Lucas, your performance on 'Modern Family' was outstanding. There's a natural comedic talent in you that the audience loves. I see huge potential there—I can help you become a leading figure in comedy, much like some of my other clients."

Dave's words flowed with conviction, painting a picture of a future where Lucas could be a leading figure in comedy. However, he was completely unaware that Lucas's heart wasn't set on comedy. Lucas appreciated comedy and enjoyed his stint on "Modern Family," but his passion was in acting broadly, seeking diverse roles that challenged him across genres, not confined to comedy alone.

As Dave outlined his vision, Lucas found himself nodding politely, yet internally, his interest waned. He respected Dave's accomplishments and influence in the comedy world, but Lucas couldn't help feeling that this path wasn't aligned with his own aspirations.

Larry, sensing an opportunity, began to share his vision for Lucas's music career. "Lucas, your first album is doing incredibly well, and that clip of you singing 'Perfect' on 'Modern Family'—viral! There's a whole audience out there just waiting for more. Imagine what we could do together, elevating your music to new levels, exploring avenues you haven't even considered yet."

Lucas listened, his interest piqued yet cautious. While he had a genuine affection for music, and was flattered by Larry's enthusiasm, especially given his successful track record, he couldn't ignore the inner voice reminding him of his true passion: acting. Music was a part of his life, yes, but it wasn't his sole focus or ultimate aspiration.

As Larry outlined potential collaborations and groundbreaking projects, Lucas continued to nod politely, showing respect for Larry's expertise and vision. However, deep down, he felt a disconnect growing. His respect for these top-notch managers remained intact, but their visions for his future diverged from his own. Lucas was beginning to realize that their paths, while impressive, may not align with the journey he envisioned for himself in the acting world.

Lucas, after carefully considering his options, turned to the two managers. "I'm truly honored by your interest and the faith you have in my potential," he began earnestly, "but at this moment, I feel it's best for me to explore my career independently. Thank you both for your generous offers."

The polite refusal, however, didn't sit well with Larry and Dave. Their expressions shifted to frowns, unaccustomed to rejection, especially from someone still making their way up in the industry. As Lucas walked away, a mix of professionalism and personal conviction in his step, the two managers couldn't hide their disappointment.

"He's just another overconfident newcomer," Larry muttered, shaking his head. Dave nodded in agreement, both feeling a sting of insult from being turned down by a rookie.

When Sam and Ava approached, curious about the outcome, they were taken aback to learn of Lucas's decision. "He turned down both of you?" Ava asked, incredulous, knowing the weight both managers carried in Hollywood.

Larry and Dave, still nursing their bruised egos, didn't hold back in their assessment of Lucas. "Yes, believes he can do better on his own," Dave said with a hint of sarcasm.

Sam and Ava exchanged glances, choosing to nod politely rather than stoke the fire.

Before leaving the Emmy after-party, Lucas mingled and formed connections, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of success and camaraderie. As he stepped outside, he was greeted by a pleasant surprise—a group of seven fans who had been patiently waiting near the venue, eager for a moment with their favorite star.

As Lucas approached, the fans' excitement was palpable. The first, a bright-eyed woman, stepped forward, "Hi, Lucas! I'm Rachel. I absolutely adored your roles in 'Modern Family' and '127 Hours'." she said, holding up a DVD copy of "127 Hours" for him to see.

"It's great to meet you, Rachel. Thanks for the kind words." Lucas responded, his smile matching hers as he reached out to take the DVD and sign it.

Another fan, introducing herself as Jane, chimed in, "And I'm Jane. Your performance really moved me!"

Kate followed, "I'm Kate, and I agree. You were amazing!"

Lucas nodded, appreciating each introduction, "Jane, Kate, it's so nice to meet you. I'm glad you enjoyed the work."

Then came Charlie, holding an album in his hand, "Lucas, I'm Charlie. Your music has been such an inspiration to us—but '127 Hours'—it was also something else!" He gestured to the two fans beside him, "This is Robert and Sam. We're huge fans of your album."

"Robert, Sam, Charlie, it's fantastic to meet fellow music lovers," Lucas replied, taking the album from Charlie to sign. "I hope to keep inspiring you with more tunes."

The group laughed and exchanged stories with Lucas, who made sure to personalize each autograph. "It's moments like these that truly mean the world to me," Lucas admitted as he signed shirts and albums. "Your support is what keeps me going."

The fans were overjoyed, their admiration for Lucas only deepening through their personal interaction. As they bid farewell, Lucas thanked them once more, "Thank you all for waiting out here. It was a pleasure meeting you."

With heartfelt goodbyes, Lucas walked away, feeling a profound connection to his audience.

As Lucas waved goodbye to his fans, his phone buzzed with an incoming call. Pulling it from his pocket, he saw Vincent's name on the screen. Stepping aside, he answered, "Hey, Vincent, what's up?"

"Lucas, good timing," Vincent's voice came through, a mix of excitement and urgency. "I just got off the phone with the Warner Bros. 'Inception', the movie you're in, it's about to hit the big screen. They want you to get ready for a series of interviews along with the rest of the cast for the promotional push."

Lucas's eyes widened in surprise, a rush of adrenaline coursing through him at the mention of 'Inception'. "Really? That's fantastic! When do we start?"

"We're scheduling now," Vincent explained. "They're planning a whole promotional tour. Interviews, premieres, the works. I'll send you the details as soon as I have them. Make sure you're ready; this is a big one."

"Alright, I won't let you down. Thanks for the heads up, Vincent," Lucas replied, the excitement palpable in his voice.

"Alright, get some rest. Big days ahead," Vincent advised before ending the call.

Lucas pocketed his phone, a surge of anticipation for the upcoming promotion of 'Inception'. The night had brought more surprises than he could have anticipated, and as he headed home, his thoughts were a whirlwind of Emmy memories and the exciting opportunities just over the horizon.
