Chapter 40: A New Source of Worry for Tom

"Yawn." Tom was feeling tired and fatigued. He came to school today with an anxious mind, not knowing what those two bullies were cooking up in his absence.

"God knows when another episode of torture will begin." He rubbed his eyes.

He wouldn't have thought of taking his leave of absence for such a long time—almost a week. But his mother absolutely forbade him to move out of bed. However, the anxious mind had its way of affecting a person's physical well-being as well. He could not sleep well at all, fearing what was waiting for him at school.

The first two days, he slept like a log and only woke up to take his medicine and food. But on the third day, he was feeling uneasy. He did not know why but his gut was giving him alarms about school.

"What are those up to? They wouldn't beat me again, right? It was an unforeseen situation, right?"
