After mustering the will to attend school, I found myself in my first-period History class, silently lamenting the decision to schedule such a class as the day's opener. As the history teacher played a video, my struggle to stay awake was evident.
*Creak*
The door opened, diverting everyone's attention to the newcomer, a student bearing a note. The note was handed to the history teacher, who then announced, "Ahem, Javier Morales, your presence is requested at the front office."
"Ooooooooooo," I heard a couple of whispers, presuming I was in trouble. 'What did I do?' I pondered while gathering my belongings and heading towards the office.
Upon reaching the office, I inquired with the receptionist about the reason for my summons.
"Coach Will would like to speak with you in the office to the right," she replied before returning to her computer.
"Thank you," I said before entering the indicated office. 'What does Coach Will want?' I wondered.
*Creak*
Slowly opening the door, I peered inside. Coach Will sat, sipping coffee and comfortably situated in his office chair.

"Why did you call me here, Coach?" I inquired.
"Ah, Javier, I wanted to discuss the basketball team list from yesterday," he began.
"What about it?" I asked, intrigued.
"Well, I didn't agree with your exclusion from the team," he admitted.
'Is he reconsidering my spot on the team?' I wondered, a glimmer of hope flickering within me. However, that hope was swiftly extinguished by his next words.
"Unfortunately, as an assistant, I have limited influence. However, I think you'd be a great fit for my AAU team. We're in desperate need of a point guard with the upcoming tournament just around the corner in a few months. While it might not be the outcome you hoped for, it still gives you a chance to play basketball and possibly still get noticed by scouts," he explained.
Hope surged within me again. "Of course, Coach, whatever you need," I replied eagerly.
"Great!" he exclaimed, a smile lighting up his face. However, my excitement quickly dimmed as I realized getting there would prove a challenge. I quickly asked, "But... how will I get there? My mom works during the day, and she won't be able to take me," adding a tinge of sadness to my voice.
"Don't worry about it. I can take you. Just write down your address on this paper, and I'll pick you up before the games and drop you home," he reassured.
"Thanks, Coach. You don't know how much this means to me," I expressed with excitement.
"Don't worry about it, son. I saw you play, and I know you're special," he affirmed.
After the conversation with Coach, I returned to class, greeted by a chorus of "oooooooo." 'Bruh,' I thought, making my way to my seat. Despite their teasing, I couldn't be mad. Happiness overwhelmed me, and a newfound hope lingered.
'Maybe, just maybe, there's a way,' I thought.

The AAU Arc is on the horizon, and I'm considering having the main character earn a system after proving himself in AAU and securing a 10-day contract. What are your thoughts on this idea? Honestly, it's quite challenging for someone who's 5'9" to ascend to GOAT level without some extra assistance, so I thought this approach would be the most fitting. Let me know in the comments! Expect longer chapters from here on out!
Side note: Seriously who decided History Class during first period was a good decision, that person is diabolical.
