Chapter 14: The spikes

When William looked at his hand again, all he could see were vines entangled on them. There was green moss on his hands that seemed to make it look wet.

But there was still mobility in them and the fingers were quite flexible.

Now that he could finally think properly, William could see that the vines were not that thick.

They were as thick as a pencil. William moved his hand and fingers around to get a feel of them.

Then something happened again, the vines started sprouting spikes out of them at an unbelievably high speed.

William feared that they would grow and pierce his skin too yet that was not the case at all.

All this while, the hound was just standing there watching yet now it had enough, it without any battle cry or anything came running at an alarmingly high speed.

William saw and went on guard, he knew what he had to do in such a situation.

The spikes were now a few inches big, there were even some coming out of each of his fingertips.

His hands had become too great of a weapon yet all that was left was to test this power now.

The hound like a dumb creature just went for William's leg with speed that William had already known about.

He had fought with a lot of dogs near the shelter in the church for fun and had a habit of knowing where they would attack.

Before the hound could even get his leg, William had jabbed downward toward the hound's neck.

The hound moved its mouth near his hand, its instincts better than William would have liked yet it didn't matter.

William was still able to hit the damn creature at the neck.

"FUCK" William muttered thinking that the jab was not that strong as he had to retract before getting bit.

Yet the hound made a long distance between him and it.

William could see what had caused it to do so, on his hand, there were fewer spikes than before.

When he looked at the whimpering Hound, a grin formed on his face. It had been a long time since William was this satisfied with an outcome.

On the neck of the hound, where he had previously attacked, many spikes were stuck inside the skin.

Fortunately for William, it didn't let the hound travel as fast as the first time.

The spikes were directly where the neck joined the head, and moving it meant the spikes would move with it which would in turn lead to getting even more hurt.

Now, this was not a fight but only a spectacle. William could be seen running after the hound who for some reason circled around the tower.

It did not enter the fog again and just sprinted away from William, because of fear of the spikes or whatever, William didn't care.

He wanted to be done with the creature as soon as possible.

A few minutes later, the hound could be seen with many spikes embedded in its body as it staggered to the ground only to finally die a slow death.

"I can't believe it was this easy…" William said while trying to resist the giggle coming from above his stomach.

William looked to the side and saw the two creatures- the rats on the ground. He had left them as a food reserve some time ago but now it felt like there was no need.

He clicked and made two of them vanish only letting one corpse, of the hound, to stay in his territory.

William went near it and examined it up close for the first time. The experience gained meant that the damn creature was fully dead and there was no more danger after the wave ended anyway.

He touched its skin yet he couldn't feel anything at all due to the skill that was still activated on his hands.

His hands were still tangled with the vines and it looked to stay like that for a long time.

William stared at the timer in his status and couldn't help but frown, there were still 10 minutes left till the skill would despawn.

'NO matter how hard I try, the skill doesn't go away with mental commands.' William thought, the skill needed to complete the time it was allotted for.

As for the corpse of the hound, William examined it like usual. It did not have much fur, only the skin and a layer of fur with no extra fluffiness.

There were spikes embedded all over it and William decided to take out one of them.

"Oh damn" William couldn't help but remark aloud.

The spike was in too deep, William had to put some force to make it come out. A few inches of the spike were inside the skin and fortunately, William saw red color come out of the hound.

If he needed to eat it someday then it meant that there was one less thing to worry about, its blood's color was red, just like William's.

William dragged the dead body near the tower and sat beside it while waiting for the skill to deactivate.

He looked at the 100km messages only to find that Tom had not messaged at all this time.

William had the curiosity to contact and ask yet something told him that he should give some time to Tom to message on his own like usual.

William went to the world chat and saw that people like usual kept bragging about their weapons and how they one-shotted the hound without worry.

William found many interesting piles of paragraphs that had different stories about other's experiences in the fights.

It seemed many had grown accustomed to the chat and now had adapted according to it.

The sacrificial tomb was all this time lying on the ground where it had fallen waiting for its master to once again wield it yet William was in his own world yet again.
