Chapter 14: 14. Encounter

Ervin and Kai worked hard to bring a big fish to the shore. The fish, almost as big as Ervin, looked like a snake with sharp teeth and small legs on its tail. These legs were useless on land. As they dragged it onto the shore, the fish struggled for air, gasping its gills in the unfamiliar environment. Each flop on the dry land scraped its scales against the rough surface, and soon it lay still, its life gone without water.

Ervin got even more excited, his eyes sparkled as he jumped and yelled 'yay' with his hands in the air. Even Dan came to check out the fish. But when Dan saw the water beast, his expression changed. He began to inspect it closely, and suddenly, Ervin jumped in front of him, declaring,

"This is mine, and I'm the only one eating it."

" What about me?'' Kai asked in a rough tone.

A cold sweat started to form on Ervin's forehead. ''Of course, I will give you half of it. I'm not as selfish as someone I know.''

However, Dan was still looking at the water beast with a serious expression.

''Something feels off'' he mumbled.

''Why do you even care about my fish, Dan? Look away from my fish, and go away, shoo! Shoooo!''

"That's not what I'm talkin..." Dan was about to argue with Ervin, but Ervin intervened, saying, "'Stop talking, Dan. We know what to do with our fish. Don't butt in.'"

"Irritated, Dan screamed some curse words at Ervin and went back to his place near the camp to finish his dinner."

Both Ervin and kai started preparing

First they made sure the fish is dead,

Ervin used three spears to hang the fish just above the fire and smeared some ingredients he borrowed from the village

Some time later, a tasty flavour smell started to spread , which anyone from a long way could find this smells make them drools.the smell is that good, even Dan started to drools looking at it, however Ervin interpreted saying

"Don't you even expect an ounce of meet from me"

"Come on, guys! I caught the first fish and got us started. If I hadn't, you'd still be playing in the water. Didn't I help?" Dan said, folding his hands .

Blame the tasty aroma of the fish. Even Dan couldn't resist. The meat sparkled and looked delicious. Who can say no when it's in front of us?

Kai suggested, staring at the meat with hungry eyes.

"Let's share with him too. It's too much for just us three, and he's our friend. Plus, at times he teaches us how to fight too ,"

Ervin looked angry, like he wanted Kai to disappear,

But Ervin, don't keep his grudge to everyone, especially not with his friends, understood he couldn't eat all the meat alone. Reluctantly, he agreed,

"Okay, okay! But you have to do what I say until we reach our first stop. If you don't like it, it's a deal-breaker for me."

"That's not a bad Idea" kai couldn't help but laugh"

Dan, sensing something imminent, couldn't shake off a shiver. He anticipated a unpleasant task awaiting him. possibly carrying the luggage for the group an idea he found very unappealing.

A couple of minutes later, the trio displayed remarkable patience as they waited for the meat to cook to perfection. Their focus was singular, fixated solely on the meat before them. The fact that they were in the forbidden forest, surrounded by hidden dangers, seemed to slip their minds.

Once the meat was ready, they delicately placed it on a large leaf they had prepared earlier. With a shared understanding, they each took a small piece, exchanging serious glances and nodding before simultaneously taking the first bite.

The pleasure derived from the juicy and tender meat was evident in the widening of their eyes. The meat practically melted on their tongues, creating a moment of sheer delight.

the atmosphere around them began to shift. The fire nearby roared even more fiercely, and their hair danced in the ascending wind beneath them.

All unfolded in a matter of seconds. Looking at each other once again, a shared satisfaction reflected in their smiles. They nodded happily before delving back into their meal, seemingly undeterred by the magical phenomena accompanying their feast.

However, up in the sky , a white dot started to Circle round them , it's definitely a air beast,it's crimson white color feather shining even in the night, no one can determine it's size because it's hard to guss how high is it flying at the moment

Moments, later another one joined it and started make noise

Kreek!kreek!kreeeek!.

As if they are talking to each other

As the mysterious sound reached Dan's ears, his curiosity piqued, prompting him to gaze skyward. In that moment, his eyes locked onto a majestic flying beast soaring above, sending shivers down his spine, rendering him immobile in sheer fear. Observing Dan's abrupt pause, Ervin and Kai, intrigued by the unfolding spectacle, redirected their attention to where Dan was fixated. To their surprise, instead of a single formidable creature, they discovered two small flying beasts gracefully navigating the airspace.

Simultaneously, the airborne creatures gracefully descended in a rapid, synchronized motion, their movements resembling an intricate dance. The air seemed to ripple with their majestic descent, leaving Kai and Ervin spellbound by the mesmerizing spectacle. As the creatures spiraled downward with an almost choreographed elegance, the realization dawned upon them. this wasn't just a duo of small beings. it was a prelude to the arrival of a gigantic beast, unveiling itself in a breathtaking display

Unexpectedly, Dan grabbed both Kai and Ervin by the arms, propelling them into a sprint towards the river. In the midst of the mad dash, Kai attempted to inquire about the urgency, but Dan, his face engraved with fear and drenched in sweat, simply turned to them. Reading the distress in Dan's expression, Kai and Ervin refrained from further questions, their instincts kicking in as they sprinted alongside Dan, propelled by an unspoken understanding that danger lurked and swift action was their only recourse.

sprinted in the opposite direction of the mysterious beasts. Whether the creatures were aware of their presence remained an Mystery. Driven by pure instinct, Dan led the charge, desperately searching for a hideout while on the run. However, the landscape offered no apparent shelter. With limited choices, Dan made a split second decision. He guided Kai and Ervin to the riverbank and, without hesitation, leaped into the water. Submerging themselves in the cool embrace of the river, Utilizing a nearby overgrown bush as impromptu cover, the trio concealed themselves, breathless and tense,

The trio, mesmerized yet terrified, observed the majestic yet fearsome creatures by the riverbank. The colossal creatures descended near the camp, their Feathers, elongated and razor-edged, gleamed like obsidian blades, intricately patterned with iridescent hues. Massive ears, finely sculpted and pointed, accentuated their majestic presence, while eyes, a deep crimson like molten rubies, emitted an otherworldly intensity. The trio, captivated and unnerved, stood transfixed by the surreal beauty and formidable aura of these enigmatic beings.

Submerged in the river, only their heads exposed, the trio's fear palpable. Ervin, visibly shaken, trembled at the realization of the beasts' formidable prowess. His rapid tremors mirrored the beasts' dominance. Anguish flashed in Ervin's eyes as one creature effortlessly devoured his catch, extinguishing the flickering campfire with disdain. Though seething with anger, fear paralyzed him. In the face of danger, Ervin struggled to maintain composure, silently yearning for the chance to dispatch the audacious creature. Amidst the turmoil, his curses whispered into the river's embrace, a defiant outcry against the intruders' arrogance.

One of the beasts, its majestic form crouched, meticulously scoured the vicinity near the water's edge. Despite an exhaustive search where the trio had frolicked earlier, the creatures found nothing of interest. Departing with an almost ephemeral swiftness, they left the trio in bewildered silence. Yet, before vanishing, each creature deftly snatched a backpack, leaving the trio stupefied, robbed not only of their sense of security but also their belongings.
