Chapter 6: Akane's first day in the mansion

It's been a couple of months since Akane Hagoromo, wife of Madara Uchiha, came back to the Uchiha clan, newly constructed Uchiha compound within the village, with her son, her sister and her nephew.

Gazing upon the compound from the litter she was riding, Akane's feelings were a tumultuous mix.

The Uchiha clan had found contentment, their days of battling on the frontlines, shedding blood over ancient rivalries that brought nothing but grief and suffering, were behind them.

But looking at her sister Akari, who curled into a ball inside the litter, Akane's heart ached for her sister Akari.

The endless feud between the Uchiha and Senju alliances, which had claimed countless lives over millennia, had seemed unending. Everyone had been too caught up in a cycle of vengeance, branding the other as the ultimate evil to be eradicated while justifying their acts of savagery which are no different to the acts they condemned.

Yet, when Izuna perished and his brother Madara went to avenge his death, an unexpected turn occurred – a peace agreement between the clans.

She had initially dismissed the news of peace as a spiteful rumor, focusing instead on consoling her shaken sister. The notion that decades of hatred could be dissolved through mere dialogue seemed laughable.

She rather believed his husband cared about her than believed this fairytail. It was only upon entering the village, the tangible representation of their newfound peace, that the reality began to sink in.

For Akari's mind, the world has turned against her, the world was mocking her sorrow and rubbing salt on her wound to intensify her pain.

Akane doubted her sister would ever overcome her grief for the time being and made a conscious effort to avoid any mention of the Senju clan in her presence and advise her child Akihito and her nephew Akio to do the same.

However, within this new environment, avoiding the topic seemed impossible; the name 'Senju' was bound to come up frequently. There was even a possibility of encountering the very individuals responsible for their suffering and having a meal with them in formal dinner.

Upon realizing the litter had stopped, Akane peered out to see they had arrived at a mansion—presumably their new home. Greeted by a maid, she promptly woke her son Akihito and went to assist her sister Akari. Fabricating a quick lie to protect her sister's privacy, she told the maid that Akari was ill and preferred not to be touched by strangers.

"Sweetie, wake up, we arrived at our new house" she whispered to Akio who slept on his mother's back, waking him up, leading both the mother and son to their room.

In the past it was awkward to carry her sister akin to carrying bags on her shoulders, but she got used to it after 3 months.

After a minute of walking with the guidance of the maid, Akane came into their room.

It was a standard Japanese-style room the size of eight Tatami mats with Japanese-style low dining table plus Tatami mats to seat, Tokonoma alcoves, 2 Fusuma sliding doors to keep belonging, and one for entering the room and balcony to see outside.

Placing his sister on the futon, she ordered the maid to bring porridge for Akari.

As the maid left, she took the towel in the room and wiped tears from Akari's lifeless eyes, combing her hair that was in a state of disarray.

As the maid came with the porridge and number of toppings in the plate, Akane dismissed the maid.

She was bit surprised by the variety and amount of toppings they gave such as chopped green onion/scallion, salted fish, egg, kimchi, shredded nori, boiled fowl and pickled plum as a porridge, specifically Okayu they usually ate supposed to be light, not be a full blown meal. Despite this, she was grateful for the nourishment it would provide her sister.

She spoon feeded her sister, who was quietly swallowing with no reaction, just tears overflowing from her eyes and mumbling words Akane's rather not hear.

After feeding her, she smiled at Akio and gave him 'responsibility' to take care of his mother.

"Okay Aunt." he replied obediently.

Entrusting her nephew Akio with the care of his mother, she then retired to a room with Akihito, where her husband usually sleeps .

It was the same as her sister, where the only difference was the lack of a balcony.

"Akihito, go to sleep now." she said with a stern voice, putting him to sleep.

"M-"

"Akihito."

Feeling pressured by her glare, he reluctantly closes his eyes.

Seeing Akihito wasn't waking up by picking his arm, Akane sighs in relief after she confirms he is in deep sleep.

No longer trying to maintain a bright smile to others, she lay on the futon and pretended to sleep.

Her mind drifted to various thoughts yet she preferred not to confront it, finding it overbearing.

She had defined her role a long time ago and nothing has drastically changed.

She was just here to raise her child and her nephew Akio, comfort her sister who was devastated by her loss while at the same not bring shame to her husband, Uchiha clan and to her clan.

That's all she prioritized and that's all she cares about at this moment.

She didn't want to go beyond that, as she found it unnecessary.
