Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Brick by brick: a hard day's work

He told me, "Mickey, I have a job and need your help." I responded, "Certainly, what do you need?" He said, "The person I work for called me, and there's just a quick job." I asked, "What is this quick job?" He replied, "There are 650 bricks we need to take up to the roof of a house." I, shocked, said, "Wait, did you say 650? Do I look like Hulk to you or what?" He tried to convince me, saying, "Come on, it's easy; I do this all the time, and now I need your help." After a moment of thought, despite the difficulty of the task, I agreed because I still needed the money. I told Brad, "Okay, I agree; I'll go with you." I went to change my clothes, and we headed to the designated place.

When we arrived and saw the three-story house, realizing we had to carry the bricks to the roof, I looked at Brad angrily, saying, "Is this the easy job you mentioned?" He lowered his head and said, "Don't start crying now; men don't complain." I asked him, "Wait, before we start, how much did you agree on payment?" He replied, "I didn't agree on anything; let's work now and stop complaining. Wait here; I'll go knock on the door." In my mind, I thought, "I deserve whatever happens now; I put myself in this situation."

The homeowner opened the door, show us the way and we began carrying the bricks. I felt fatigue and tiredness, and the bricks seemed to increase rather than decrease. After completing half the quantity, I felt thirsty, so I knocked on the door of the homeowner, who lived on the ground floor while we were carrying bricks to the roof. A girl with her entire chest exposed answered. At that moment, something moved in me (not emotions but something else). I looked at her and said, "Can you bring a water bottle? I'm feeling thirsty." She replied in a gentle voice, "Yes, of course, wait."

After a moment, she came out with red lips, saying, "I'm sorry for the delay; here's the water bottle." Then she winked and started laughing, saying, "I'm Janice by the way . What's your name?" I didn't have time to chat, but I didn't want to ignore her, so I replied, "My name is Michael, and you can call me Mickey." She started laughing and said, "Mickey, what a cute name for a handsome guy like you." I thanked her and said, "I'll leave you now; I still have work to do." She went inside while I returned to work, thinking, "What a strange girl." I quenched my thirst and took a water bottle to Brad for him to drink as well, saying, "The homeowner has a sexy daughter who seems to be looking for someone to satisfy her desires."

He responded, "You deceiver. Oh, did you get her phone number?" I told him, "What's your issue with phone numbers? Every girl I talk to you asks me if I got her phone number." He said, "Damn you, you're the one who tells me what happened." We completed our work and delivered all the bricks to the roof. I looked at my hands and saw how they had become. The job was tough and made you feel how tough the Life is . I grabbed the bottle and went to return it. Before I could knock on the door, the girl came out again. I told her, "Where is your dad? We're done." She said, "Enter and wait; he's asleep. I'll go wake him up." The moment I entered, she ran behind the door, jumped on me, and started kissing me. I froze in that moment, not knowing what had hit me.

I regained consciousness, pushed her away, and said, "What are you doing? If your dad comes out and sees this, he'll kill me." She coolly replied, "Don't worry; he's asleep and won't hear anything." In my mind, I thought, "What a golden opportunity." Without thinking, I dragged her closer, but just as I was about to start something, I heard a noise approaching. I told her, "Stop, something's coming." She moved away, handed me a note, and said, "This is my phone number; don't forget to call me." I took the note and put it in my pocket. Moments later, her father came, gave me 150 dirhams, 75 dirhams each. The girl yesterday bought some fish from me at twice this price, and this bastard is exploiting us. But I'll turn the tables and use his daughter however I want. Since morning, I've been carrying bricks, and in the end, he gave me 75 dirhams.

Brad and I returned home to find Adam and Jacob in the house, with food on the table, cigars, and hashish. I gave Brad his share of the money and went to shower. After finishing, I joined them for a meal, and we started smoking and laughing together. After a while, I went to my room, took out Janice's number, sent her a message, set the alarm to go fishing tomorrow, and went to sleep. I woke up at 6 in the morning to the alarm and found a message from Janice ....
