Chapter 14: Interesting Thing
In the car, Zane looked at the restless Lorna fidgeting in the passenger seat, feeling somewhat puzzled. He couldn't shake off the strange familiarity with the name Lorna Dane, yet he couldn't place where he knew it from.
In reality, the Lorna Zane was familiar with wasn't the present Lorna. In the future, Lorna would have a resounding name—Polaris. But the current Lorna hadn't awakened her abilities, and her hair hadn't turned green yet. She was nothing like the future striking and formidable Polaris, making Zane feel both familiar and unfamiliar.
It must be said that Magneto was truly powerful. Not only did he operate without safety measures, but his children were scattered all over the world, each with formidable genetics, producing handsome and beautiful offspring, all with superpowers.
Back home, Zane found his assistant Anna waiting in the living room.
"Anna, take her to freshen up and find some new clothes for her to wear."
Anna, understanding without asking what had happened to Lorna, considerately took the bewildered Lorna into the bathroom.
Meanwhile, Zane went to prepare a meal. Although it wasn't mealtime, Lorna's appearance clearly indicated she had been hungry for a long time.
In the bathroom, Lorna allowed Anna to wash her and she acted like a robot. Seeing Lorna being like a robot, Anna couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"Miss, relax. We're not monsters; we won't eat you."
"Uh-huh."
Lorna, like a startled rabbit, gave a timid response. If Anna hadn't been close, she wouldn't have heard it.
In these few hours, Lorna felt like she was dreaming. First, she stole bread and got beaten up, which was nothing new for her.
But then, like a theatrical performance, a handsome, sunlit man, like a prince, suddenly picked her up in a sports car and brought her home. Although she didn't know why, her intuition, developed from a long life in the lower strata, told her that Zane had no ill intentions towards her, only genuine pity.
"Could it be that my good days are finally coming? Am I dreaming right now?"
Lorna pinched herself, feeling pain—definitely not a dream.
The enormous contrast between the past and present made Lorna unable to help but burst into silly laughter. As she laughed, tears streamed down again, but this time they were tears of joy.
Anna watched her, crying and laughing like a lunatic, without making fun of her. Seeing the injuries on the girl, Anna knew her past must have been terrible. Anna didn't know why Zane brought her back, but looking at the girl, it truly made her heart ache.
Leaving aside Lorna's cathartic release in the bathroom, Zane, in the kitchen, had already prepared porridge. Judging by Lorna's appearance, he could tell she had been enduring hunger for a long time, alternating between being famished and full. It wasn't suitable for her to eat greasy food right away; she needed something light like porridge to nourish her body.
Zane himself was puzzled. Honestly speaking, he wasn't a good person at heart, so why did he feel a pang of pain seeing Lorna like this today? In the end, he brought her home without even understanding who she really was. Had he lost his mind?
Setting aside these thoughts, some accounts needed settling. Zane was not one to delay revenge.
"Skynet, those two who attacked Lorna earlier are in your hands," Zane muttered as if talking to himself.
"Okay, boss. Do you want me to kill them, ensuring no evidence is left behind?"
Zane's phone in his pocket suddenly made a sound. Although Skynet now roamed freely in the ocean of the internet, Zane always kept a close eye on it, never letting his guard down.
"No, no, no. Killing them directly would be too cheap for them. Skynet, do it like this, like this, and like this."
Zane's eyes flickered with a chilling cruelty as he tirelessly instructed Skynet. Skynet's thought patterns were still too naive, but Zane couldn't blame it. After all, it was originally just a scientist, and its emotional intelligence was practically nonexistent, overshadowed by its incredible intellect. Therefore, Zane felt obligated to mold Skynet into a 'pillar of talent.'
That night, a string of lawyers found those two men. After various calculations and reports, the two men successfully went bankrupt. Strangely, they also became undocumented immigrants, turning into the "three no's" - no job, no identity, and no housing. But that wasn't the end. Shortly afterward, the two men, in a fit of rage, assaulted some lawyers and were taken into custody by the police. Inside the prison, there were guards bought off by Skynet, waiting for them.
Can one do anything with money? Zane expressed that in the United States, money truly gives you the power to do anything. The total cost of all these actions didn't even add up to $200,000, an amount that Zane would spend on a single tire for his Ferrari. However, it was enough to ruin the lives of two people who had irked Zane.
Zane stated that if you annoy him and don't possess the strength to make him take you seriously, he would make your life worse than death. There was no concern for justice, no consideration for cruelty!
"Skynet, based on the knowledge you've gathered about the Cosmic Cube, find out where S.H.I.E.L.D. has hidden it. They've kept it for 60 years, and it's time to change its nest."
"Okay, boss."
Meanwhile, at Calvert University in Virginia, USA, in a laboratory, the instrument measuring gamma rays automatically activated. After inputting a series of parameters into the computer, the instrument displayed coordinates.
"Boss, the Cosmic Cube has been located. I also found something interesting."
"What interesting thing? Let me see."
