"Why would she make you do that?" Alex asked, his brows furrowed in concern.

Susie's expression turned pale.

"I've always wanted to be a model when I was young. I had the looks, but for some reason, my mom made me believe it wasn't enough. She convinced me to alter my appearance, and eventually, I lost interest in modeling altogether. And now, I'm here at this restaurant, working for her."

Alex's eyes widened in understanding. "So, she was doing it to help you..."

Susie's voice cut in, her tone laced with sarcasm. "No, she was doing it to make herself feel better.

"What do you mean by that?" Alex asked, his curiosity piqued.
