Chapter 20: Monster Core

Retracting his finger from Tyler's head, the burly old man scoffed in disdain and turned around.

Tyler's pupils were constricting and dilating continuously as he was still immersed in the beauty of the art he had just seen.

"Of course you're impressed...You Castiels couldn't even come up with a single art. Your generations are meant to forever be under mine," The old man said in a proud tone with his eyes closed.

After a few seconds, Tyler finally blinked and snapped out of his daze. His expression turned calm.

Now he was a wielder of a 6-star sword art. But the name "Castiel" that he kept on hearing gnawed the bottom of his heart.

"Esteemed sword art creator, thank you for bestowing this powerful art upon me. I am grateful..."

-Not really! You almost killed me in your stupid trial!

"Esteemed sword art creator, who was Castiel to you...Why are you so repulsed by the name?" Tyler asked cautiously.

The burly old man finally opened his eyes and gazed into the distant skies.

"Castiel...." his voice suddenly grew solemn, "In my time, there lived a certain Ray Castiel....We were close friends once. But he had a reckless nature. He never reasoned once and always did whatever he pleased. He put our lives in senseless danger. So we had a fallout because of that...From then on, we became rivals in everything. He stole everything I ever worked for. Including my wife..."

-Psyche!

"Eventually, he was found out to be a demon and was hunted and killed. The only regret I have is not being able to kill him myself!"

Tyler now understood the man's personality. He had to deal with the pain of being a cuckold.

-That still doesn't give you a right to drive me to death's door!

Tyler stood up and stared at the old man's muscular back and long grey hair and let out a sigh.

The old man's story hadn't answered any of his questions, instead it had added to them. If he was really a Castiel like the old man said, and this Ray Castiel was a demon, did that mean that his demon origin followed his bloodline and the Liber Infernus wasn't the one that turned him? But even so, none of his parents carried the name Castiel.

Was he adopted?

Slowly, the beautiful world around Tyler began to warp and he found himself in back in his room.

His pink backpack had also appeared beside his feet.

Everything that had happened felt like a distant daydream. If it weren't for his tattered clothes and body weakness, he would have thought so.

Sighing once again, he staggered to his bed and fell asleep on top of it.

When Daren left Tyler, he had waited somewhere for Tyler to return chasing after him but that did not happen.

"Don't tell me he was accepted," His curiosity eventually took over and he walked back to the position he left Tyler previously and he wasn't there. Only Tyler's pink backpack remained on the ground.

"Huh....." he sighed helplessly, "To think that such a person would be accepted by Daotian...Now, I have to walk 6 hours all by myself back to the academy."

As he picked up Tyler's backpack, a dark-colored crystal fell out— a monster core.

Picking it up, he wanted to return it to the backpack but suddenly, his system screen popped up in front of him.

It glitched a couple of times but the message was clear to read.

[Inspect: Rank B- monster core]

[System notification: Regional teleportation unlocked. Use monster core raw energy?]

"This?"

Daren was dumbfounded. Not because of the teleportation but because of the monster core. Who would have thought that the crystals the world regarded as garbage contained raw energy?! The raw energy that was capable of powering a big feat such as teleportation!

His gaze fell on Tyler's pink backpack full of them as his shock increased, "T-T.....Tyler knew about it the whole time?!"

voooooosshhh!

The pink backpack suddenly disappeared.

The glitching system screen pulled him out of his daze. It was glitching intensively like it was about to disappear.

Quickly, he replied, "Yes!"

There was a lot more the crazy heavy sword idiot was hiding than what met the eye...What exactly was he going to use the monster cores for?

The monster core in his hand crumbled and a green light escaped out of it. In that very instant, Daren's figure disappeared.
