Chapter 83: Disturbing the peace

Prisoner executions were something of a spectacle at Queensbury; everyone would come out of their household to gawk and watch since it was free and open to the public.

These guards were a bloodthirsty lot and no better than criminals themselves.

Aubrey shouldn't have been surprised that they would conceive of mind boggling ways to kill someone and talk about it so gleefully.

The men were already betting and dropping coins on the ground to see which of them would be right in the end.

Gambling was a favored way to relieve stress and pass the time in Queensbury.

Now he wished he hadn't eavesdropped on the guards conversation since now he couldn't get the gruesome image of a prisoner being torn apart out of his mind.

It just felt like they were descending deeper and deeper into the dungeon.

Dungeons weren't his thing, places like this sapped his vitality with all the doom and gloom.
