Chapter 15: Negotiations
The negotiations with Nike proved to be easy as two days after the Board meeting, the Nike deal was finally set to be signed and Alex together with Marotta has gotten Nike to increase the deal to about €95m plus €10m in bonuses every season for the next 15years possibly, the contract can be now signed and Nike is ready with the signing on bonus for the signing day which would be in another 2 days as the clubs legal department together with Nike's legal team are finalizing the legal frameworks and details.
The same time as Alex was with Nike, micheal Edwards together with his team are in Sweden to negotiate with Flick, who was in Sweden for holiday and the negotiations was proving hard for come by due to differences in beliefs, limitations on squad forming powers and expectations the club has for him and he has for the clubs. Flick wants to be the main person incharge of squad sales and purchases of which the club is not willing to concede but rather the club has offered him the opportunity to work with reputable names like Marotta, Edwards and their team but he's proving hard headed.
The situation in Sweden was unexpected as every one in the board expected the negotiations to be easy and scot free due to Flick being jobless, "we have to make concessions or we'll lose him and his expertise in coaching teams" said Alex. Marotta with his wealth of sports experience said " we aren't a small team that he can play however he wants, yes flick is great but he isn't the last name on the coaching list and we've got to have a coach who's willing to sacrifice for Barca, in Nagelsmann his agent has already told us he's only thinking of Bayern, unless Bayern sacks him today he'll not consider the Barca job said Marotta, alexx responded while taking in what Marotta was saying "so, we're only left with RDZ or Roberto de Zerbi of Brighton", guys said alex "We can't kill ourselves for anyone that's not billing to come to Barca on our terms or the teams terms, so without further a do let's terminate or negotiations with Flick and focus on RDZ and we'll provide a sum of 10m to buy out his contract from Brighton" and Edwards pls try and wrap up the negotiations early because as Johan Cruyff said "any one that has second thoughts of playing for Barca, is of no service to us". Hence why we can't go out of script or budget to convince anyone be it a coach or player to come play for Barca as Barcelona is bigger than both me and anyone of us, Edwards said Alex as he looks at the monitor where Edwards is currently attending the meeting while in Sweden "I and the board would agree to any demand he has if it doesn't go against our set principles or budgets.
Edwards assured Alex and the board that he'll head off to England and engage Brighton and RDZ in negotiations for his services with the hope of getting RDZ in between the next 5days. Alex knows what's at stake as with Messi and Busquets close to retiring, the teams need to be assured who the coach would be after they leave and if it'll affect the structure of the team, Alex wants the future of Barcelona to be set in stone hence why he's setting a committee of 8 board members headed by Susan the Legal director and Reverter the Vp Marketing & Branding to come up with a befitting blueprint of the next 50 years for the team, which simply means even when the board of Alex ends their tenures, the next board would still be tasked with trying to upkeep and working worth in the blueprint or they'll have to face the scrutiny of the socios as Alex would present the plan to all the clubs socios in the next general assembly on November 23.
Edwin van der sar announces to the board a pending meeting with Tesla on the potentiality of them being the automobile sponsors of the club which aligns with Alex's renewed hope agenda which he'll present to the General Assembly same with the blueprint. The Tesla meeting would happen at Tesla's giga factory in Baden Germany due to Tesla canceling its plans to build a giga factory in Valencia Spain after the initial plans were leaked.
