It was spring – and the garden was a riot of vibrant colours of flowers blooming and the air was filled with floral scents that would put anyone in a good mood but I barely noticed any of it. My mind was whirling endlessly with the memory of the last conversation I had with Selene and the more I think about it, the more an uneasy feeling kept knotting in my stomach.

The fact that both her and Kurtis's testimony was different should have told me everything I needed to know. Why hadn't she trusted me with the full truth? I allowed her to be with her ex-husband while we were engaged, isn't that enough reason for her to trust me at least? Doesn't it prove beyond doubt that I can do anything for her? I know she didn't feel the same way as me and may love Xavier more than she did me but where does Kurtis come in?
