Beth and Cara huddled under the bed, their breathing shallow and their hearts pounding. The dim light cast eerie shadows on the floor as the three figures moved further into the room. Beth strained her eyes to get a better look at the feet, noting the difference.
They could see three legs step in, two belonging to women wearing stylish footwear and one to a man. Beth didn't understand why she was hiding under the bed in a room that belonged to her brother. Still, she needed to see the faces of the people planning against him.
She was about to inch forward when Cara grabbed her hand. "What are you doing?" Cara whispered, her voice barely audible.
"Seeing who it is that has come in here," Beth replied, trying to shake off Cara's grip.
"But what if it's Anna and she asks what we're doing in here?"
Beth shook her head. "It's not Anna. I saw her dress tonight. It was black, not brown or green." Beth responded.
