Chapter 1: I Love Being an Introvert

Everyone within the group is unique; Everyone is frantically looking around, speaking in their own language. I hear some French, some Spanish, and one voice stands out above them all.

"Woah! Is this another world!?"

A tall, blond, American-looking man, speaking English, stands in the front of the crowd of 20 people, 21 including me. An old bearded man steps forward and chants a spell in Eldeian,

"Oh, holy mother of all life, grant us the ability to speak to another."

A blue light shines from his silver staff, and as he rattles it to the floor to get everyone's attention, the gold rings interlaced within the top ring clang together. Everyone is quiet momentarily and looks at the old man before them.

"I want to apologize for bringing you here against your will, but we desperately need your help. The summoning takes a lot out of you; let me explain as we walk to your rooms."

One of the people who spoke Spanish before spoke again, and I could understand them now.

"Is everyone here from Earth? And we can understand each other now, right?"

I would have paid hundreds of gold coins to learn that spell, and it would have made it so much easier to adventure. A few people in the group are surprised that we can all talk when we were speaking different languages just a moment ago.

As we walk out the intricately engraved wooden door, the natural sunlight blinds my eyes as I haven't seen it for a couple of days, and the old man speaks again,

"I am Archbishop Walard, But you may call me Mr. Wal."

The tall blond man at the front of the group speaks up again

"Excuse me, Mr. Wal. My name is Trenton, and you can call me Trent if you like. Could I ask a few questions?"

"Sorry, not yet. I will explain some things on our way to your rooms, but I am very busy. We will meet again for training, and I will explain more then."

Trent nods and lets him carry on as he walks.

"Our kingdom is facing a multitude of problems, one of them is dungeon invasions. The thing we call dungeon invasions are when A dungeon, which is a structure formed when excess magic condenses in one place. When those dungeons are not destroyed in a set amount of time, monsters escape from it and wreak havoc on the surrounding areas."

I never had to deal with that. I made a government force to patrol around for dungeons. I would never leave it up to adventures; they are unreliable, and I can give jobs to those who are not needed in the military anymore.

"That is our most pressing issue at the moment; we ask that you please help us. We can make a return spell for you, but it is costly and would take a few months to acquire the supplies."

We enter a large living room-looking area with doors running along the outside walls and a lit fireplace on the far wall. Walard ushers us into the room, and I could see him quietly counting as everyone walks past him. As I walk by, he says

"Twenty-one? I thought we had only summoned 20."

Before closing the door, he apologizes

"There must have been a miscalculation in the spell. There are only 20 rooms, but there are 21 here. One of you may have to stay on the sofa tonight."

He closes the door, and we all find a place on a seat facing the center of the room, and Trent Speaks up.

"Wow! What a day! How about we get to know each other better since we will be stuck here for a while. My name is Trenton, But you all can call me Trent. On Earth, I run cross country, and my favorite hobby is reading. How about you?"

He looks at the girl squirming nervously in her seat to his left.

"Umm, Hi. My name is Olivia. On Earth, I loved books. That's it, I'm not that interesting."

"I'm positive you're not boring; what's your favorite book?"

Trent and Olivia briefly discuss their favorite book and hand over the topic. I notice that Olivia has calmed down as she has found a new friend.

When the introduction gets around to me, I decide to tell them what I remember doing on earth. I hope time hasn't advanced where I sound ancient compared to the young to middle-aged man I'm stuck looking like.

"Hi, everyone. My name is Brandon. On Earth, I didn't do much. I worked an average office job, read some books, and liked playing video games."

I see Trent make a question, look at me, and asks,

"What happened to your clothes?"

I had forgotten that I had changed to my old clothes from Earth. I changed into my old gray slacks with holes in the knee and faint brown blood stains. My shirt is a classic white dress shirt with a dark blue tie, and I had lost my vest long ago. My shirt had cuts slashes through the fabric, yet over the years, my tie had stayed pristine.

"I just had a long day before coming here."

Tren nods his head in agreement, and the circle continues. After everyone had introduced themselves, we broke off into our local groups, talking about this and that. The people who are sitting next to me are Louis and Britney.

Louis is like me. He is 30, comes from France, has been working an office job for 11 years, and is excited about the change of pace this new world is bound to bring.

Britney was a social media influencer, 19, from America, and mostly does makeup and reactions. But she says she had a separate account for playing video games. It wasn't as popular as her makeup, but she liked it. We talked about our favorite video game for a while until someone speaks above the low chitchat of the groups.

"Hey, what's that?"

Someone stands up, pointing just above the warm glow of the fireplace. On the wall is a modern-looking kitchen knife held up by brass rods extruding from the back of the fireplace mantle. Under it, a plaque that reads "The weapon of the Young Warrior."

I recognize the blood-stained blade of the kitchen knife that I had once used to kill thousands of monsters, now standing before me again.
