Chapter 142: Chapter 137
A few minutes ago, in a location far from the ruins of the ARGUS, a bolt of yellow lightning streaked across the sky, and reverse lightning whisked Amanda Waller to safety.
After they came to a stop, Amanda Waller looked around bewilderedly and asked, "What just happened?"
Reverse Lightning glanced toward the direction of the ARGUS headquarters and replied, "There's been an attack. It was an immensely powerful burst of energy. I got you out before the energy exploded."
"Did you only rescue me? What about the others? There's also vital information stored in the ARGUS" Amanda queried.
Reverse Lightning gave her a stern look. "Getting you out was already pushing my limits. Since I arrived in this damn world, my speed has become very unstable."
"Don't even talk about surpassing the speed of light; it's challenging enough to reach normal speed to rescue you alone. If you wanted more, you should have helped me restore my speed early," he added.
Amanda Waller inwardly sneered at the notion. He would surely flee if she assisted Reverse Lightning in regaining his speed, leaving her with nothing. It was a ridiculous proposition.
Meanwhile, Amanda also noticed the direction of the ARGUS headquarters. Even from afar, she could see the sky turning green.
"Green light... it's him. I underestimated him, Dr. Swann. Help me eliminate him, and you can have what you desire immediately," she proposed.
"What if you break your promise?" Dr. Swann inquired.
"Then you can kill me," Amanda replied matter-of-factly.
A smile flickered on Reverse Lightning's face before disappearing with a swish.
His attention shifted to Jude's side. Following the radar warning from Cowboy No. 1, a yellow lightning bolt suddenly appeared, its speed astonishing.
"I can only see dust flying on the ground below with my eyes, let alone individuals; it's as if I can't even see a ghost," Jude thought as he activated the aiming device to scan the area automatically. However, a peculiar phenomenon occurred.
The electronic network map either showed no targets or was suddenly filled with red dots. Cowboy 1's aiming system couldn't keep up with Reverse Lightning's speed.
"Fast guy," Jude sighed. It was a far cry from their encounter in the laboratory. Reverse lightning's speed, now reaching Mach 50 and still increasing, was beyond comprehension.
"Swan, Mach 50 is beyond the aiming range; you've underestimated me," Jude declared as he released a swarm of miniature investigating eyes from Cowboy No. 1 to enhance his vision.
When Cowboy No. 1 was built, Jude designed numerous weapons specifically to counter speedsters. Half of the armor's functions were dedicated to dealing with them.
"I've located you. Since I can't aim, you'll just have to taste my firepower," Jude said as the aileron of Cowboy No. 1 unfolded, revealing three pairs of wings densely packed with light spots.
As the Dyson ball supplied energy, the laser beams chased Reverse Lightning, creating a barrage akin to a heavy rainstorm.
After a minute, the chase led them to the water's edge of Lake Erie. As laser-tornado rain poured down, massive waves surged on the lake.
Suddenly, the red dot on the aiming system fluttered and disappeared, indicating that Reverse Lightning's speed had either surpassed Mach 50 or he had been eliminated.
As Jude searched for traces of Reverse Lightning, water tornadoes emerged out of thin air, followed by bolts of yellow lightning raining down towards Cowboy No. 1.
Jude grinned, realizing Albert Swann's poor anti-aircraft capabilities. However, as lightning struck Cowboy No. 1, its surface absorbed the energy, charging up.
Amidst the onslaught of lightning, a sudden burst of red lightning struck Cowboy No. 1, causing it to emit black smoke and descend rapidly.
As Reverse Lightning approached, Jude activated the gravity field, trapping him.
"256 times the gravity field; can you still run?" Jude taunted, turning the tide of the battle in his favor.
