Chapter 138: Chapter 133 : Open Portals to the Multiverse

I think you have to think ahead and live in the moment.

~Rick Sanchez

"Mr. Herbert, you..."

"I know, Peter. Since I created these clones, how could I not have a contingency plan? They are essentially extensions of myself, and I understand their minds better than anyone, so I pre-programmed a control password," Jude explained, unlocking the heads of the clones, which sparked instant discord.

"I told you I shouldn't have come to save him; now look what you idiots have done!"

"You fool, this was a collective decision; you agreed to it from the start."

"Damn it, I've always been against it; now that it's done, it's all over!"

Jude retrieved a bottle of brandy from one of the clones, taking a sip to alleviate his boredom. With a condescending gaze, he addressed the group of himself.

"Quiet, all of you! Arrogance and vanity are our weaknesses, and during your development, I've already adjusted your intelligence. While you may still be considered geniuses to others, you'll never surpass me."

"And do you truly believe you represent the Phoenix Project? Let me tell you, that's nonsense!"

"Do you know what the most foolish thing in the world is? Taking oneself too seriously. Of course, the real Phoenix Project is safeguarded in a more clandestine location by me, that's my true ace in the hole."

"If it weren't for Ivy and Little Spider's safety, you wouldn't have been released, understand?"

"Then kill us; we refuse to be your pawns or substitutes; that's an insult to Jude Herbert!" the clones retorted, their excitement rising once again.

Jude smirked. "I've invested too much effort into creating you; I can't simply dispose of you. On the contrary, I've already charted out your future path long ago."

"In each universe, there can only be one Jude Herbert at a time; otherwise, chaos ensues. So, I'll send you into the multiverse, ensuring your uniqueness and independence."

"The multiverse? Mr. Herbert, what do you mean?" Peter inquired.

"Peter, you're an intelligent student, but you seem unfamiliar with the concept of the multiverse."

"I understand the concept, but I'm unclear about your intentions."

"It's quite simple. I'll create a teleporter. Have you heard of the Infinity Gems?"

Little Spider shook his head. "What are those?"

Ivy raised her hand. "Infinity Gems, gems capable of infinite growth and replication? If they truly exist, that would be incredible. I've dreamt of having a castle made entirely of gems since I was a child."

"Ah, hush, Ivy," Jude interjected, addressing all the clones.

"Infinity Gems, as the name suggests, possess infinite power. There are six gems in total, representing space, time, reality, power, mind, and soul."

"The space gem, for instance, grants the ability to travel through the universe at will; it allows for spatial teleportation. Although I'm unsure if it works across universes, with my brilliant mind, anything is possible."

"In other words, I'll use the space gem as a conduit to open portals to the multiverse and send you to various universes, okay?"

Ivy shrugged. Though she didn't fully grasp it, she felt empowered.

Little Spider initially understood but posed a critical question. "Mr. Herbert, I comprehend everything, and I believe in your abilities, but where will we find these space gems?"

Jude chuckled. "Peter, I'm quite pleased with your blind faith. Keep it up. You also posed an excellent question."

"From my observations upon entering this world, I've noticed its peculiarity. Some aspects are based on comics, others on films, and some even on fan dramas."

"For example, Ivy, according to the comics, you should be a botanist, yet your educational background appears to be limited to pre-natal studies. Thus, your characterization is derived from a fan drama called 'Gotham.'"

Ivy and Little Spider exchanged puzzled looks.

"Seeing your perplexed expressions, I realize you don't comprehend, but that's inconsequential; disregard it."

"What I'm trying to convey is that, if, according to the comics, the six Infinity Gems are safeguarded by the Elders of the Universe, acquiring them would require considerable effort."

"However, in the cinematic universe, it's much simpler. The space gem is in the possession of S.H.I.E.L.D., and I believe this is highly probable."

With a pointed look at the clones, Jude declared, "So, once I obtain the space gem, I'll transport you to the multiverse, where you can forge your destinies. You'll be the only Jude Herberts in each universe, unique and independent."

"Without sacrifice, you can continue enjoying wine and autonomy. Do you agree to my plan?"

The clones exchanged glances, finding the proposal agreeable. Even with their autonomy, none wished for their demise.

"Acceptable, but I have one condition," one of the clones stipulated.

"Speak," Jude prompted.

"I require a Peter Parker and an Ivy Pepper."

"What?" Little Spider and Ivy exclaimed simultaneously.

"Yes, that's my condition. We share the same memories and emotions. Who's to say they'll exist in the new universe? Thus, I require a Peter Parker and an Ivy Pepper."

"I accept this condition. I'll assist in creating clones of Peter and Ivy, and that's settled."

"But to prevent you from causing trouble, you'll remain in a state of dormancy until I send you off. Wubalubadubdub!" Jude proclaimed, and the clones promptly fell unconscious once more.

Concern etched Little Spider and Ivy's faces. "Jude, are you truly going to clone us? I don't think it's a wise decision," Ivy expressed her apprehension.

Jude reassured her. "Fear not, there'll be no complications, and I'll dispatch all the clones to alternate universes. They'll be my trailblazers."

"What does 'trailblazers' mean?" Little Spider inquired.

Jude replied theatrically, "Peter, it seems you've yet to grasp the concept of what exists beyond our universe."

"Indeed, I don't have a clue, and neither do you. When the fabric of space is torn asunder, what lies beyond the threshold? We can only speculate."

"Is it perilous or benign? None can say. Hence, I must send the clones to explore. They'll gather data and navigate these universes for me."

"If they encounter danger, they'll retreat. If it's safe, then we shall embark on an adventure. Additionally, I'll expand the Phoenix Project into the multiverse. Understand? This is the Pathfinder Project."

"But if the universe proves perilous, won't it be akin to sentencing the clones to their demise?" Little Spider pressed.

Jude fixed him with a stern gaze. "Peter, you must mature. Clones aren't human; they're created with a purpose and a mission. Death is simply one facet of their mission. Ivy, do you concern yourself with the clone's lives and deaths?"

Ivy shrugged. "Not particularly."

"Peter, observe, this is the mindset of maturity."

Little Spider remained silent for a moment before speaking, "You've planned all of this meticulously, haven't you?"

"Haha... Naturally, I left contingencies in place when creating

them, even intentionally suppressing their intellect. They'll never surpass me; they're merely pawns I've crafted."

"This incident merely served as the spark to activate them. Even if it hadn't occurred, I would have initiated their activation."

"Very well, that concludes matters for now. Follow me. Beneath this prison lies someone significant awaiting us."
