Chapter 8: FIRST TRIAL

Sebastian's POV

I could not handle waiting outside due to the extreme hot sun rays. I entered the house to sleep but something popped up into my head. The desire to impress my keepers.

Like a dog I was kept and fed by people I din't know or relate to. Just as dogs are useful to their keepers ensuring some security, I had to be useful to mine. I looked at the already weak sticks giving us the little shelter we required and there I was.

Straightening everything picking some dried leaves and grass that'd been stored behind the hut like structure. I looked at my soft hands, seemed like they were gonna train to have life the hardest way ever.

I must have been a terrible child for my dad to decide otherwise with my life. I remembered incidences where my dad and I had always exchanged words but he actually never raised his hands on me.

At that point I loved our rules which were strictly enforced. Parents were not expected to raise their voices at their kids nor hurt them. I could remember the several times my father wanted to bonk me and raise his voice at me but often my mother could remind him to stay away from evey satanic temptations.

According to them I would turn out to be the reason why he fails as the father to our nation. I smiled at his wonderful idea of punishment without actually involving anyone. So the current battle was only mine and his to identify who outsmarts who. But sadly he was too powerful for me to outsmart..

I knew that at that point everyone would have figured out something fishy about my absence. It was so not my style to maintain a low profile. My mind roamed all over and the images of me having fun with the women offered by Quan and Mad flooded my mind.

I took a good look at the house after I was done and nodded approvingly to myself smiling from ear to ear. It looked much better and almost new at that point.

It was already evening and the whether became unbearably frigid as always. I saw Domain's mother approaching from a distance, she looked overly worked up that I suddenly felt pity for her.

I was sure enough that would be my first time to have such feelings towards someone and I couldn't help but rush towards her. Taking away the grass made basket like structure I watched her sit on the stone nearby.

Domain was no where in the picture and for some reason I felt worried for her, is that how she'd always lived her life?

"Is there anything I can do? ma'am." I asked and she smiled showing me the food she'd brought and the fireplace to prepare everything.

Wasting no time, I followed every single instructions she gave me and the food was ready. "I brought enough food for today and tomorrow, no need to go in search of any tomorrow." She said after I assured her that the food was ready.

I stepped my foot outside and it was totally dark but still no sign of Domain's return. Were the two not together? Did she finally find somewhere better than this hell of a place? My eyes drifted back to her sleeping mother, she was probably too weak and tired to be awake.

I had to go in search of her like I'd always protected Myra, nature had given me yet another sister to take care of. I could tell she was younger than me, only looked older because of hard life perhaps.

I walked the huge place in search of Domain, obviously din't shout her out. The place was too silent and I heard that sounds traveled faster at night. I walked further and there I was, every single step I took, the sound of dry bones were heard braking under my feet.

It would be a lie if I said that I din't freak because my heartbeat was so unstable at the moment. My mind roamed towards a certain novel I'd actually read.

// The Queen OF CALAMITY// The monstrous images portrayed by the author begun to display in my mind, I remembered an apocalyptic setting of a novel I'd read online some time back and boom I began to visualize the zombie's.

*******

Meanwhile, Domain was done with her usual physical fitness and her stomach growled. She looked at her miserable self as tears began to roll under her cheeks.

Yes she had been trained to always be of service to the nation but looking at her present status, everything was just so unfair. Why would her own father sacrifice her for crying out loud?

In her secret hidden area secluded by those in authority like her dad, Domain took out her smartphone and began to scroll randomly not knowing what to do.

Her eyes landed on one of her pictures, she smirked at how different they looked. The her at present was so not the Domain in the picture. One thing was clear, surviving in that place meant she would completely loose her beauty.

Her hands landed on her father's contact, she was sure to terminate everything before it was too late. For the passed few days there she'd already resembled the laddies who tortured there biddies on slim possible and she surely looked worse than them.

"The number you have dialed is no longer in service." Domain tried to contact her father several more times but the call din't go through.

She was sure that the battery would soon be dead which meant she would be a captive in that particular Valley until her father and his team would come for there rescue. Considering her current status, stay at that place was indeed risky for her.

Her mind figured out her first time to land on that place. She gave thought how freaked she was. Seeing the bones of probably a century freaked her out. She could see her on skull among those, stepped by other generations who'd also land of that place like she did.

"Organize yourselves dudes, we should leave this place soon before we loose our lives out of hunger." Domain said to the secret team sent out with her.

Her father had assured her that support would be sent to cover for there stay, he assured her of food and clothing at least but nothing had actually been delivered ever since that time.

She was sure that maybe he'd send some supplies over the weekend as agreed but seeing his line no longer in service gave her doubts on whether to fully trust the process.

According to the training she'd undergone for years, trust was always termed a liability. Even though she trusted, being a fool to wait upon death was never her style.

She walked out of the secluded quarters within the area and walked slowly back to the place she called home. Her hands tightly hugging herself. The whether was unbearably frigid and the strong winds swept across the place.

She spotted a figure walking towards her direction and she freaked, her heart pumped vigorously looking at the figure but still kept walking. Her senses alert and ready for any self defense measures.

Chapter 9: ASSUMED TO BE HISTORY

AUTHOR

Sebastian walked towards the figure he saw at the front and heaved a sigh of relief. The body outline even in the dark was sure to be her and no one else.

He tapped gently on her back and Domain turned ready to attack until she saw the black hood she was always familiar with. "Hey Nobody, you startled me." She said turning to look at the other direction she was headed to.

Domain was certain she'd seen someone and that was not Seb so who the heck did she see? Something was not right, she was sure the team sent to that particular place with her was the exact number she'd been with so who else would be roaming around the area?

She looked at Seb tempted to to reveal what she'd seen but unfortunately to her Sebastian was just a useless guy who didn't know any self-defense strategies.

Sebastian on the other hand was relieved to finally find her. Not that it eased his fear of roaming the area but because he was worried for her.

"What took you so long?" He asked hugging her slightly and Domain froze in place. All her entire life no one had ever worried about her safety. Most people who knew her and the type of training she'd undergone termed her independent and dangerous.

According to her father's day-to-day logic, she was born a soldier and even if someday she would die, her death would always be remembered by many.

"I came out on a hunt." Said Domain breaking from the hug and turning to walk away. "This way is shorter than the one you used." She explained and Seb followed right behind her.

Domain looked at the weak houses from a distance and smiled. Alexander Yates and her father had decided the most foolish way to transform Sebastian. She could already figure out that the plan was solely formulated by her father.

Seeing him sacrifice her in the name of transforming the poor guy meant two things to her. Either he cared so much for the state's future leadership or he had his ambitions behind everything.

Domains gave thought to her brother and something crossed her mind. Why would her father send him abroad and force him to concentrate mainly on politics?

Domain was sure enough that growing up, Torben had always wanted to be a surgeon and his mind had never changed. She remembered the endless beatings Torben had always received whenever he said he would be a surgeon.

On her part, trouble was never the issue because she had already accepted to join the military as proclaimed by her dad. With that, she became Daddy's favorite but all he wanted was to show Torben the importance of being in his favor.

She placed the old rags on the floor, which had always been their bed, and for some reason, she didn't feel so bad about it. If the mighty Sebastian Yates didn't complain about that, she would be with him until he finally became the good son his father expected out of him.

"Goodnight sister," Sebastian said and Domain froze in place. 'Sister?' She could not recognize the last time someone had referred to her as that. Even Torban her biological brother had always called her by her name Aria.

Revealing her real identity Aria Moana to the public was something she'd always refrained from and always used Domain.

Domain threw her tired tramp right beside Seb and as usual, closed her eyes but this time sleep never located her. Her instincts could never allow her to enter the slumberland.

She was certain to have seen a human figure patrolling the area, it's not like ghosts existed. To her ghosts were just mythical stories narrated by the elderly to refrain the young generation from walking at night.

She tried so hard to be fully awake knowing Sebastian's life depended on her, however, she was woken up by the sound of one bird she feared. She'd heard plenty of scary stories about the owl and for some reason, she felt like believing them due to its satanic appearance.

She was relieved that there was no struggle to search out any surviving plants or small animals for food. They had been lucky to find enough for that day.

Domain's eyes finally landed on their house and she smiled triumphantly. At least Sebastian was not as dumb as her father had portrayed him to be. She was sure to transform him her way and not her father's way because that was waiting upon death.

"Mother," Seb called and everyone froze in place, mother? How was that even possible for Seb? She wondered but still accepted to be called a mother, if he so longed for a mother then she'd act as one they were back in their states.

On the other hand, Domain was somehow scared. What if someday Seb finally found out who they were? She wondered why on earth would her father risk her existence.

She was sure to go through a lot of trouble when Seb took over leadership after his father.

"I need to know something from you guys," He said shifting his eyes from mother and daughter. "what exactly is that human-like creature stone?" He asked carefully placing his butt on the floor and Domain mused at his miserable appearance.

Sebastian could only use his time to find out more about his new environment. No more clubs for him, no more parties. He could guess that was the end of powder and stuff. Oh, how he hated the turn of events but everything was his fault perhaps.

"Bribe me and I'll narrate everything to you." Said Domain and Seb smirked shifting his eyes to himself and back to the woman beside her.

"This was the most blessed nation in the entire world, it is believed that this place was initially the best agricultural center with plenty of foodstuffs. However, due to unpredicted circumstances, the land lost all beauty and was finally reduced to this," She paused taking in some breath.

"Earthquakes hence the terrible landscape, an unknown virus with no cure swept up the land which welcomed heavy rains. The flooded area led to a terrible life loss and finally, a very prolonged drought which is still experienced up until now."

She paused as if done with the conversation but Seb felt something was still missing. "Keep going." He said his hand holding his chin in support.

"The stone-like woman structure is believed to be a woman, the only survivor after the prolonged drought. It is said that other nations came for her rescue but she could not just live to see another day,"

"According to her, those of her kind were no more and it was useless being alive. Tightening her hands together, her eyes raised to the heavens. Her eyes were full of tears, she could only pray to the heavens trusting in its inhabitants. Unfortunately, her prayers were negative." She paused.

"She named this place Valley of Bones because so many skulls were left behind. Valley of death for her prayers were solid, (NO LIFE SHOULD EVER BE SUPPORTED HERE AFTER THE END OF MINE)

She finished her narration and I was all sweaty in an instant. "How the heck are you surviving here?" Seb asked his body all tensed and sweaty.

"Because we will soon add up to the number of dry bones scattered in the entire area." Domain said finally standing to leave. Seb looked at his miserable self, he would not sit and wait upon death. His bones would never be scattered in such a place.

He would survive at all costs, return to his country, and settle as normal. He would never allow his father to locate him ever, he would ensure he lives miserably thinking about his son.
