Chapter 5: I'd be willing to face death.

Not much was said after that, or perhaps I wasn't listening, either way, the harsh reality that I might indeed be a vampire hunted me.

I managed to get them to excuse me while I went to the bathroom, but that was only so I could get some time to myself.

Yes, I needed to think things through.

Standing in front of the mirror, I could see my reflection, my eyes were red for some reason, my jaw line even sharper than they used to, and there was something else, something I couldn't put my fingers on.

"God, what the hell is happening?" I muttered to myself.

Looking at the ground, I stood there in silence, trying to gather my thoughts, that was when it hit me.

If I was a vampire, then the weaknesses should also apply to me, should it not? So how am I still able to see my reflection in the mirror?.

Isn't that one of a vampire's weaknesses?

My mind is still fuzzy about that, I wasn't that much of a genius when it came to the supernatural, even though I could sense them, I still didn't take my time to actually learn a thing.

The little stuff I knew came from my big sister, she tends to study a lot, and most comes from occult research.

Speaking of which, there's one more weakness I remember she told me, weakness from the sun, it's said vampires can't survive when hit with sunlight.

I gulped down my saliva, turning my head to the window, I could see the rays passing through the glass.

"Might as well."

I moved towards it, gently, I began to move my hand towards the light, but nothing happened, I didn't feel any burn or scar, it just felt like a normal heat.

A heavy relieved sigh left my mouth, now it certain, two of the weaknesses that should have affected me did nothing… Does that mean this whole thing is a scam?.

Like an animal instinct, I felt it, it was like I was being watched, I just couldn't tell if the person was in the bathroom with me, or outside.

I have no reason to doubt again, staying here is not my best choice, I need to go home and make sure my mother is alright, and also get my help from Big sis.

There's no doubt I drank the blood of that maid girl, so there's definitely something wrong with me, but whatever it is, it's probably not me being a vampire.

That was when I made up my mind.

Opening the window gently so as to not make any noise, I looked down, and made sure to check if anyone was roaming about, but thankfully, there was no one.

So with that, I jumped down, my feets landed forcefully against the ground before I did a back roll to absorb most of the impact going to my legs.

As soon as I was on the ground, I didn't waste a single time, I dashed forward, running as fast as I could.

My speed was outstanding, even I could tell, this isn't normal, if I had to calculate, I'd say I was moving about the same speed as the fastest dog on the planet.

But I've long come to accept that something changed in me after I came to deliver the food in Malison's, so anything else that happens after this isn't going to surprise me much.

After what felt like a few seconds, I arrived at home, I could already see the light luminating through the windows.

I stopped,

Standing in front of the door, I raised my hand, ready to knock.

Was it fear? Or maybe I was just anxious, scared to know what they'll say if they ever find out about my sudden change.

Either way, I couldn't bring myself to do it, so I lowered my hand. I'll try again tomorrow, for now I'll crash at a friend's place.

Click!

The door opened, and right in front of me was a girl, with long black hair and eyes, dressed in a black skirt and blue top.

This person is my sister, and she was seated on her wheelchair, looking up at me.

"Lu?!" She called out,

My eyes widened in shock,

"Hey… there sis," I blurted out, scratching the back of my head as I looked to the side, but I could only keep up that act for so long.

Looking at my sister, I could easily tell she was pissed,

My sister had always been someone with one facial expression, more like she couldn't show any other expression on her face, but for someone who grew up by her side, it became easy to tell what she was feeling.

Suddenly, my sister raised her hand, gesturing for me to bow my head.

And so I did.

But the moment my head came low, she grabbed my ear, dragged me inside and closed the door.

I was now kneeling in front of her like a child who had done something bad and was down for questioning from his parents.

This might be the first time she has ever been this pissed at me, and it's honestly understandable.

"Luu."

My name left her mouth, sure I heard it, but I couldn't bring myself to look her in the eye.

"Where were you for the past week? Do you know how worried you made mom? She has been going back and forth, trying to find you but the officers couldn't get a lead on where you went."

My sister spoke,

"I'm sorry."

"That wasn't what I asked."

"Y.. Yeah".

"Where were you ?"

"See… about that, I was … uhnm.."

Paaaaaa!

Our ears picked up on the sound and instantly we both turned our gaze to the left, where we could see our mother.

On the ground were scattered groceries with my mom standing at the center, a gradual growing shock showed on her face as she stared at me.

"Mom," I stood up, a surge of determination pushing me forward. I had to calm her before she...

And then it happened—

"Ahhhhhhh!"

Her anguished cry pierced the air. She crumpled to her knees, tears cascading uncontrollably. It was impossible not to feel my own heart shatter witnessing her pain.

I rushed to her side, embracing her fragile form. In that poignant moment, the weight of her sorrow pressed against me, and the thought crossed my mind: if sacrificing myself meant shielding my mother from such agony, I'd willingly face death with no second thoughts.
