Chapter 5: – Misfits 2 – Growing Up
Over the years he really learned he had lucked out with his reincarnation. This body he got was just amazing. With minimal effort he had become the best performer academically and as long as he did some exercise he could manage to keep himself in amazing shape. He felt like there wasn't anything he couldn't do.
It was a relief he didn't have to struggle through school this time between his new and improved brain and knowledge from his previous life he could just coast through class which was good since he had really been dreading going to school. He still had to deal with his braindead classmates, what could you expect from kids after all, but at least he could ignore school once he left the building.
He didn't care to skip classes since that would require a lot more work and didn't really help his plans, but he did get placed in gifted and advanced placement classes to advance his education. When all was said and done he finished as valedictorian with a bunch of college credits despite not putting in anywhere near 100% effort.
He had actually filled out a decent chunk of his free time practicing various sports including some combat sports to train himself. It started off as a minor interest, but when he noticed how well his body took to physical training and learning the fighting techniques he didn't hesitate to dedicate more effort. Without knowing what kind of power he would receive having an extra ace up his sleeve wouldn't hurt.
His family was a good family. His parents loved each other and they loved him. His father had a well paying career and once he started going to school his mom went back to part-time work which made their lives even more comfortable. He wasn't a very demanding child, but when he did ask for something they didn't hesitate to get it for him.
Sadly this universes entertainment was the same as his previous life's. Imagine having to rewatch all the shows and movies you already watched. For some of the amazing pieces of entertainment that was fine, but most of the average trash put out was not worth a second watch.
The good news kept on coming in when it turned out though he didn't live in the Wertham borough he did live in a wealthier area of London nearby. He had even visited the Community Centre to verify it was there and looked the way he expected it to. Everything checked out. It was only about a 20 minute ride away using public transport. less than 15 if he he went directly by car.
Outside of school, training and martial arts he had invested most of his remaining time into learning web development. Outside of the storm and superpowers this world was just an alternate version of Earth after all. He knew all the biggest trends related to the web and knew he was in a perfect position to capitalise on it.
He had created a bunch of websites. Not all of them succeeded like he hoped, but enough of them did to make him very well off for a teenager. What had taken more effort was creating a complex structure of shell companies to hide himself as the owner and creator of all those websites. He didn't want anyone knowing he was behind them yet, he couldn't afford the attention until after he got powers so despite being one of the wealthiest teenagers in the world he lived like a regular upper middle class youth.
At 10 years old he created a google competitor. Sure he was a few months late compared to google itself, but google didn't catch on right away and early Google was nowhere near as streamlined as it was over two decades later. Sure he might be a little late with the launch, but he was years ahead with the design of the search engine. This was also his highest priority as controlling a major search engine would help him with any of his other projects by allowing him to manipulate the results in his favour.
He created a chat application which turned out as a complete failure. He might have had a good product, but possibly the timing wasn't good. He might have to wait until smartphones take off for it to experience the growth he was looking for so he didn't shut it down completely just yet.
He also created a video streaming site at 15 before youtube was even a thing. It had been a slow starter, but after a few years started building up steam, partially helped by the integration with his search engine.
He ended up creating a few social media platforms inspired by facebook, twitter and instagram. They hadn't quite caught on yet though. The twitter and instagram clones were doing alright, but the facebook clone had been somewhat of a failure to launch. It wasn't only about the app, but sometimes also being amongst the right crowd to launch the app or website.
With his large amount of savings it wasn't hard to pay off someone at the local police station to include his information on the list sent to the Wertham Community Centre for community service as a young offender. To explain why he wanted to do this he just concocted a story about a girl he was into being sent there and that he wanted to be sent there in the hopes of a chance at a relationship. The guy bought it without any issues and gave him a pitying look. Would someone with his good looks struggle that much getting a girl? Either that or he just didn't care after the large wad of cash he received.
He did give Chris a warning that although he wasn't in the system for any crimes since he hadn't actually done any crimes nor been convicted and he would only sneak his name in onto the list sent to the Community Centre he would need to make sure he showed up, because if he didn't the Community Centre might reach back out to the police station regarding his no show. If this happened it was possible that they might assume some kind of clerical error and actually add an offence to his record so it would be best if he showed up for the entire duration to prevent any investigation and risks.
