Chapter 24: Into The Forge

After Baldur and Selene spoke with Jendi, neither returned to their room. Instead, Selene left the castle to visit The Moon Coven's private residence, while Baldur went under the castle to enter his private workshop. The pair had to accomplish something since they were officially engaged.

It was a custom on Feluc for couples not to exchange rings when they were wed, but to exchange weapons instead.

So most couples bought a decent weapon for the other or something practical. Many commoners would exchange knives since they were cheap but also practical while nobles would buy more expensive and personalized weapons. It was rare occasions when one created the weapon themselves but there were still those that did. But no matter which rank got their spouse a weapon, it was customary to add one's wedding vows in ancient Feluc runes.

So that was what the two were planning to do. Each was creating a custom weapon for the other while also coming up with their wedding vows.

Selene opened her workshop doors and immediately flew over to her storage locker that contained numerous materials. The room had everything from rare imports from the Imperium, creatures hunted on Game World, or even things that she had traded with the different Aeldari species.

'Let's see. Let's grab this and that and this. Oh, that would work well. And we can use this too. Ooh! I forgot I had that!' Selene had so many materials that she could use that she was initially overwhelmed. It took her an hour to finally settle the number of materials down to five that would work well together.

Selene placed them all on the table before her and nodded.

Once she gathered everything, she began to heat them all up with her magic before fusing them together into the shape of a sword. Though she was no blacksmith, she was able to 'feel' how the materials interacted with each other. She altered the position of the different materials but kept the initial shape over and over until she felt that the materials had reached perfect resonance with one another.

When she was finally done, she used her powers to bind the materials into their final position. When she was done, she admired the final work with a smile before running her finger along the back of the blade, feeling the runes etched in that were her wedding vows.

"Hehe," Selene smiled to herself, feeling a little arrogant. "He won't be able to match me at all. This was made with the best materials, my amazing power, and my love! He may match me with the first and beat me in the second, but when it comes to love, he shall never defeat me! Muhahahaha!"

One of the high-ranking witches who was just about to knock on Selene's door paused when she heard the laughter coming from it. Knowing the meaning of that laugh, the woman turned around without hesitation.

"Nope. Not gonna get involved. I can talk to her about getting new recruits later," she said to herself as her feet moved faster and faster, barely being able to be called walking at all.

While Selene was cackling like the High Witch she was, Baldur was also creating his gift to her.

Unlike Selene who created a blade for him, he planned to created a staff that would increase her already potent Pysker powers, even more than a typical Force Weapon would.

Baldur only used 3 materials but the price of all 3 was worth an entire planet when used in the way that Baldur was planning to.

The first of the materials was a small branch from the giant tree on Game World. This was not simply a random branch that had fallen off but a piece that the tree itself had presented Baldur. The branch wasn't thick at all but it was still filled with the vitality that the tree itself had.

'I'll use this for the inner portion of the staff. And then I can use this for the outer portion,' Baldur thought as he picked up some Wraithbone.

Wraithbone was a unique material of the Aeldari that was solid warp energy. They could be used to conduct Psyker abilities perfectly, through the weapons. It was also harder than Adamantium and could regenerate itself over time.

But the best part of it was that it could be created and shaped easily as long as one knew how to. This meant that a person could arm an entire army with Wraithbone weapons without worrying about logistics. Unfortunately for Baldur, he wasn't at the level where he could create Wraithbone, only shape and grow already existing portions of it.

Baldur used his abilities to surround the branch with Wraithbone before having it root itself into the branch, perfectly connection the two. He then had the bone rise above the top of the staff and created a crescent moon to rest a small, crystal orb in the centre of it. He also extended the base and sharpened it into a blade that could be used in combat.

That was where Baldur placed a clear orb made of a crystal that could only be found on a single planet in the entire galaxy. And since most people did not like Psykers, they were unaware of how useful the crystal was.

This was Lorelei and could be used to create Force Weapons. It not only increased a Psykers power but also had anti-warp properties that made it perfect for fighting other Psykers or Daemons themselves.

Luckily, they had to be attuned before they were useful which meant that Baldur was able to shape it without trouble. He also carved his wedding vows into the moon without issue.

Baldur stood back and admired his work. What seemed like a basic staff made out of white materials and clear crystal, the tree in the centre not even visible. But this was the biggest surprise of the material.

Baldur injected some of his psychic energy into the staff and the colours began to change. The white staff became crimson red, while the crystal began to look like a ruby and glow with a red light as Baldur injected 'flame lore' into the staff. The staff changed to a deep blue colour while the crystal looked like sapphire as 'heaven lore' into it.

'Perfect,' Baldur was glad that the staff would work as expected. He then began to injected certain lores into the staff, forcing it to change colours constantly, until he created a purple staff with grey and red accents along it. He kept the blade and moon portions white and the crystal clear so that Selene could customize them if she wished or allow them to constantly change colours. Either way, he was satisfied with the staff-blade that was before him.

When Baldur was finally finished, he walked up the stair and was about to get into bed when a maid knocked on his door.

"Your Majesty, breakfast has been prepared."
