Chapter 41: Chapter 41 - Counterattack

(Sorry no chapter during Christmas. I'm sleeping all day for some reason, feeling very sleepy.)

With the production of robots going smoothly and Adam able to field stronger and better robots, like Aegis, Nemeun and Manticore. They no longer have to worry about the attacks from the Zombified Grimms. Or at least, that is what Adam assumed.

The first few days stronger robots were deployed, they recaptured the resource nodes and then the manufacturing plant which Adam planned to turn into a fortress instead. However, the very next day. The Mutated Grimms send out new hordes of Zombified Grimms.

Normally, the most abundant type of Zombified Grimms is Beowolf and Ursa. The others like Deathstalker, Goliath, etc are very few in between. Usually outnumbered by the former from 1000:1.

The reason is fairly simple, even in nature they are hard to find. They are like field bosses. Very rare but also very strong. Because of that, it would be difficult to even find five zombified Deathstalker in a horde. Yet there are now hundreds of them.

"This kind of number is unusually large and impossible given the distribution of these Grimms in nature." Agent said as they watched the recording of the drone, capturing a horde filled with these powerful Zombified Grimms somewhere close to the foot of Mount Glenn.

"Indeed. Normally, Grimms like Manticore are very rare in the wild. But here we can see hundreds of them." Adam added worriedly.

Thus began Agent's investigation of the origin of these strong and unusual Grimms.

In the span of just half a day, Agent already traced the activities of these Infected Grimms from outside of Sanus. Which is extremely worrying. The threat that they thought were land locked now have their activities outside of the continent.

Another few days, Agent traced the activities all the way to a ghostly continent. A continent that does not exist on newer maps and existence hidden on purpose by someone. A land that defies logic to be perpetually covered by bloody sky and land devoid of life as wasteland filled the landmass. The only life there is Grimms.

The Grimms and Infected Grimms seem to wage war on this continent. A very intense and bloody war.

The Grimms seems to have endless numbers on this continent as each that died will have ten ready to replace. However, the Infected Grimms are also the same as they infect the normal Grimms. The number of Grimms surpassed millions. Millions on each side, tearing apart one another without care.

The Land of Darkness is like a true meat grinder. Millions fell but millions more ready to replace and continue the war.

"No wonder the activities of the Infected are very quiet in Vale." Adam frowned as he came to a realization. "The Awakened Human is waging another war on another continent."

The realization that Vale is still standing isn't because they were strong. But because their enemies have better things to do is a very bitter pill to swallow.

The only attacks were to prevent Adam and Vale from forming any power to resist the Infected. However, Adam now built the factories in another world. In a few more days, he would have a proper army of mechs to field.

"Master, I am to believe that this continent is the home of Grimms. The Awakened Human are probably waging war in order to seize the source of these Grimms and be able to produce an army of infected."

"We cannot allow him to succeed." Adam said with a sigh knowing everything just got more complicated.

"Indeed, we cannot allow our enemy to succeed." Agent nods.

———

A week later.

Adam returns to Black Bullet world to fetch his army of mechs.

He is thoroughly impressed with it, especially the Manticores.

Manticore is basically a spider tank, an all terrain armored vehicle or robot. It was 5 meters tall and just from a look he can already tell this will be an impressive one.

Meanwhile, Aegis is a humanoid mech which looks like a suit of armor wielding shield and a melee firearm that shoots lasers and creates laser beams that can slash. But its main ability is to create a forcefield concentrated on their shield which made them an excellent frontline unit.

As for Nemeum, it's a 3 meters tall bipedal robot that has a powerful laser cannon installed. Its main ability is a mobile cannon platform.

There is also humanoid unit blueprint but they aren't manufactured because the mechs is honestly better than those androids that lack a lot in term of armor which apperance were prioritized.

Apparently, androids weren't even a thing prior to the rebellion. It was the Mastermind that created these humanoid robots for whatever reason unknown to everyone.

After collecting his army, Adam giddily returned to Remnant to test them out. Upon his return, Agent is already there waiting for him outside the wall surrounding Vale with Tina and Winter. Tina simply tags along since she has nothing to do meanwhile Winter is actually curious about the mech Adam will introduce.

"So… how are you going to test them?" Winter is the first to break the silence as Adam unloads the mechs from his Inventory.

"Good question. I actually hadn't thought of that." Adam mutters as he remembered that Zombified Grimms aren't exactly easy to find unless they start an attack. They move in hordes after all.

"Why not try them on my summons then? They are very close to normal Grimms. By extension, that applies to Zombified Grimms too." Winter volunteered and summoned some Beowolves.

"We go with that then." Adam turns to Agent and nods as they begin the test. Firstly on Aegis.

Agent activates its combat AI and sic it on the group of four white Beowolves. Aegis immediately activated its shield, an energy force field that expands from its physical shield it carries on its left arm.

The group of Beowolves charged at it and the mech greeted them with a heavy sweeping slash of its melee which looked like an axe but blunt and functioned more like a mace. Once the attack is thwarted, it raises its shield and actively puts it between itself while attacking with its melee until all Beowolves are killed.

Nothing much to say, a great frontline unit with dependable defense. The fact it won the battle without even a scratch is already enough to say about its credibility.

Next is Nemeun, this one straight up decimated the next summoned Beowolves with its big laser cannon and it's a mobile cannon too.

Lastly is Manticore, a four legged spider tank which is meant to have great mobility regardless of terrain. It was armed with one big gun that usually mounted as a battle tank's main cannon and a few light machine guns. A tank with four legs basically and with a lot of armor. Making it a literal walking fortress.

Its opponent, Winter, thinks a Manticore Grimm is a proper opponent for the Manticore tank.

While it took a few shots for the mech to tear the Manticore a new hole on its body, it still did in less than three minutes and the Grimm only put a few scratches on the mech which had specialized alloy used as its frame and armor plates.

"Well, I should say the experiment is overall a success." Adam concluded.

Then he unloads all the mechs he has in his Inventory. 4000 Aegis, 800 Nemeum and 500 Manticore. A sizable army.

"It's time for a counter attack." Adam declared with a solemn tone.

The realization that Vale survived this long is only because their enemies aren't paying attention on the continent is a very difficult truth to accept. He must be more proactive and aggressive, he concluded.

The enemies, the Awakened Human, are targeting something on the illusive, dragon shaped continent. Agent believes it's the source of the Grimms considering the scouting of the continent revealed unimaginable numbers of Grimms on the continent and their numbers are continuing to increase. Agent concluded there must be something spawning these Grimms and the Awakened Human are targeting that to tap into the potentially infinite number of Grimms to be infected.

———

Few hours later, 20 of the 24 Airships arrived at Vale and were being loaded with the SF and Atlesian mechs along with supplies like dust, ammunition etc, soldiers.

It's a major operation. Biggest since the Great War apparently.

After a while, Tina strolled up to him in her combat ready state. She is checking up on him thinking he might need company while everyone else is busy preparing for the operation.

"Hmn? Tina?" Adam called when he noticed her.

"It's me, nii-san. Want something to drink?" She offered him a cup of hot coffee in a paper cup.

"Thanks." He said and gratefully accepted the coffee as he took a sip. He glanced at her who is looking down at her own cup and sipping slowly as the coffee is still scalding hot.

"Uhm, how's your Aura training going?" He is trying to strike up a conversation but has no particular topics that come to his head except the Aura training that all Cursed Children are taking right now.

"The teacher said I am doing great…" She replied and the conversation ended there awkwardly.

They both avoid eyes. One staring at the Airship fleets being loaded with cargoes, another staring at the ground and her coffee.

"Nii-san… do you think the operation will be successful?" Tina asked out of the sudden. Her reason is because she saw what the Infected Grimms are capable of. She participated in the recent battle after all, as the reinforcement team.

In Tina's eyes, the enemies are numerous. Numbers are their enemy's main advantage. Even after she saw the new mechs, against the enemy's main force, she cannot see a clear victory. Their new advantage in firepower is useless if the enemy numbers are near endless. The forces Adam brought will be whittle down slowly like a grinder until nothing left.

"It is necessary, Tina." Adam sighed. "The activities of the Infected Grimms around the foot of Mount Glenn is very suspicious. While the purpose of this operation is to eliminate the horde of strong Zombified Grimms, the real purpose is to investigate Mount Glenn."

"To investigate Mount Glenn? Is there something up there?" Tina is confused as she still lacks understanding of the geography of Remnant.

"Indeed, there is a destroyed city there that boasts an extensive network of subway systems built into preexisting caverns. There is increasing activity of Infected Grimms and sightings of many Mutated Grimms. I am afraid there will be a second Ansel Town incident happening there." He said and had to explain what happened to Ansel Town to Tina.

"I see, that could be bad indeed." Tina agreed as Zombified Grimms already too much, if they start producing Mutated Grimms too, it would be disastrous.

After a bit more waiting, the preparation is completed and both Adam and Tina board the Airship as the fleet departs towards Mount Glenn.

On the bridge of the flagship, Adam sat on the captain seat with his group surrounding him. His face remains grim as he looks at the mountain from the windows of the bridge.
